The Canadian sketch comedy series Four on the Floor was an outgrowth of the CBC radio weekly Frantic Times. Appropriately, the four male stars of the series referred to themselves as "The Frantics", and did their best to live up to this cognomen. Recurring characters (there are always recurring characters in a show of this nature) included Mr. Canoehead, Quenelle and Mary, the Evil Ultramind, A Lonely Guy In a Room, and Mr. Interesting. Coproduced by the CBC and Telefilm Canada, Four on the Floor debuted June 13, 1986, and lasted thirteen weeks; it might have lasted longer had it not be scheduled opposite the phenomenally successful American sitcom The Cosby Show. ~ All Movie Guide

It's disco time with host Mel Slirrup (Eugene Levy) and Melba the Disco Queen (Andrea Martin) in a dry run for the future SCTV: Network 90 recurring feature "Mel's Rock Pile." On "SCTV News", Earl Camembert (Levy) incurs the wrath of the tech crew when he complains about his chair and his pencil. And among this week's commercials is a new plug: Tex and Edna Boil's Organ Emporium (this week, they're smuggling Shetland budgies across the border for another promotion), not to mention the ads for the Ronco Weiner Skinner and Captain O'Shaughnessy Table Top Smoke Alarm. ~ All Movie Guide

It doesn't look like Moe Green will ever come back, so Edith Prickley (Andrea Martin), leopard coat and all, takes over as station manager, with the blessing of owner Guy Caballero (Joe Flaherty). But that blessing becomes a curse when Edith announces her plans to change the face of SCTV with "boobs, buns, good-looking hunky guys, and no more sports!!" Also on tonight's schedule: Jeff Edwards (Eugene Levy) hosts the lethal game show "Shoot at the Stars," with celebrities John Rutter (Dave Thomas), Chalo (Martin), and Robert Groulet (Flaherty) running for their lives; anchorman Earl Camembert (Levy) delivers a blistering editorial about his bad neighbors; and the Movie of the Week, "Jaws 23 Part 1," reaches its crisis point when Amity runs out of sharks and begins hunting mackerel. ~ All Movie Guide

Johnny LaRue (John Candy) pushes his new housing development LaRue towers ("It's cheap and it's got character"). The obtuse panelists in the game show "High Q" drive host Alex Trebel (Eugene Levy) insane. "Jacques Cousteau's Undersea World" finds Jacques (Joe Flaherty), Renee (Dave Thomas), Phillipe (Levy), and Pierre (Candy) plumbing the depths of a backyard well. And in, "Marriage Counselor," the title character (Thomas) and his client (Catherine O'Hara) are forced to improvise when the client's husband doesn't show up. ~ All Movie Guide
