The Man of Steel returns to the big screen with this continuation of the icon's film legacy that picks up after the events of the first two Christopher Reeve films. Some time has passed since the events of Superman II and the world has gotten used to life without Superman (Brandon Routh) ever since his puzzling disappearance years earlier. Upon his return, he finds a Metropolis that doesn't need him anymore, while Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has moved on with another young suitor Richard White (James Marsden) in the meantime. As the hero begins to tackle the fact that life on Earth has continued without him, he is forced to face his old arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) and restore the life that was once his. Directed by Bryan Singer from a script by the writing team of X-Men 2, Superman Returns marks a return to the screen for the man in tights, whose production history has seen many failed attempts including a famous near-miss from Tim Burton and Kevin Smith with Nicolas Cage in the lead role, along with another from director McG and writer J.J. Abrams (Lost). Singer eventually won the prestigious gig when he pitched the idea to not tackle the origin story again, but continue with director Richard Donner's original vision. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

Football hero Boomer Hayes (Ken Wahl) finds he is in the middle of a looting scheme in this non-stop actioner. Billionaire and owner of LA's pro football team, Bat Masterson (Robert Davi), has arranged a fake toxic chemical spill to provide an opportune situation for his group of ex-cops to plunder an evacuated community in Beverly Hills. Surprised by the state of things when he comes out of the bathroom, Boomer soon grasps the opponent's play and takes it upon his able-bodied self to tackle the situation. Luckily, he not only has the support of his girlfriend, Laura (Harley Jane Kozak), but ex-cop and bad-turned-to-good guy Ed (Matt Frewer) also decides to play on the home-team. With a plethora of explosions and stunts, it shows how the heroes semi-effectively defend their lush neighborhood. ~ Kristie Hassen, Rovi

Self-made low-budget maven Theodore V. Mikels -- the brains behind such bottom-bill drive-in fare as The Corpse Grinders -- shot much of this tediously tacky mess (also known as Female Plasma Suckers) at his castle-like mansion in California. The castle serves as the base of operations for the lascivious witch queen Mara (the exotic Lila Zaborin) and her coven of curvaceous followers, whose weekend pastimes include, among other things, human sacrifices. The title would seem to suggest a kinky good time for Z-movie buffs, but this one is a real groaner, with static shots, fuzzy post-synched sound and shabby lighting. (Judging by those castle digs, Mikels should have been able to afford better equipment.) The end result is an exploitation movie that doesn't bother to exploit anything. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

An utterly bizarre psychedelic exploitation-western, The Female Bunch tells the tale of five women who live on a ranch with no men. Russ Tamblyn can be seen having his face branded before being impaled with a pitchfork; there are scenes of lesbianism and drug use; and a rather haggard Lon Chaney, Jr. appears as a ranchhand in his final role before his death in 1973. One of the strangest films directed by cult filmmaker Al Adamson (Satan's Sadists), this low-budget oddity was shot at the Spahn Movie Ranch at the time that it was occupied by the Manson Family. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi
