New love feeds a woman's deepest fears in this independent drama. Julie (Jess Weixler) is a shy young woman who one day happens to meet a handsome and mysterious man. As the two get to know one another, Julie learns the stranger is Max Oliver (Willem Dafoe), a well-known author. Max is still struggling emotionally with the death of his wife Lucia (Mariela Franganillo), a famous dancer, but with Julie he begins to come to terms with his grief, and as he falls for her, he asks her to leave New York and come with him to his estate in Italy. Against the strong advice of her friends, Julie accepts Max's offer, but as she learns more about the new man in her life, she becomes increasingly fascinated with the story of his widow. Soon Julie has become obsessed with Lucia, and she's hobbled by jealousy and feelings of inadequacy brought on by a woman she has never met. A Woman was written and directed by Giada Colagrande, who is also the wife of leading man Willem Dafoe. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Not to be confused with the 1987 Bob Rafelson/Debra Winger thriller of the same title, the 2005 Black Widow stars Giada Colagrande as Eleanora, a woman amorously involved with the shady and eccentric Karl. When Karl dies, Eleanora embarks on a trip to his bizarre home -- known as 'The Rubber House' -- in an aggressive attempt to uncover her paramour's darkest and strangest secrets. Once there, she becomes erotically involved with the residence's weird caretaker, Leslie (Willem Dafoe) -- little realizing that he harbors bizarre, hidden eccentricities to rival anything in Karl's life. Colagrande directs, from an original script that she and Dafoe (real-life husband and wife) co-authored. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Directed by Giada Colagrande, Aprimi II Cuore follows the obsessive and sometimes incestuous relationship between sisters Caterina (Colagrande) and Maria (Natalie Cristiani). Caterina, 17-years-old and shy, loves the arts and takes comfort in listening to music while her sister, a prostitute, entertains her nightly host of clients. Living in the apartment becomes harder with each passing day, as Maria is only allowed to leave to go to dance class. Despite Maria's efforts, Caterina falls for her dance teacher, Giovanni (Claudio Botosso), and series of perverse situations present themselves as the siblings compete for his attention. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi
