A gay, 5-a-side soccer team realizes they've got their work cut out for them when they're scheduled to take on the rowdiest, most ruthless team in their league for their very first match. Archer is a former military man who has just realized his longtime dream of assembling a gay soccer team. Dubbing his team Platoon F.C., Archer prepares to shatter athletic stereotypes while dispatching the competition. But when Archer learns that Platoon F.C. will play their inaugural match against the the dreaded Bethnal Reapers, the wind sinks out of his sails. The Reapers have a reputation as the most ruthless team around. Unbeknownst to Archer, however, is the fact that the Reapers are on the verge of getting banned from the league for violent play, forcing Reapers captain Adam to implore his teammates to exercise restraint on the field. Desperate to prove his team can survive a match against the roughest players in the league, Archer instructs the Platoon F.C. to strike first and strike hard. When the Reapers realize what they're up against, the rules go out the window in the struggle to emerge the victors. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A handful of British teens come to terms with their identities and their prejudices in this drama. Loris (Rikki Beadle Blair) teaches a class in drama and dance at a school in a working-class community, and a number of his students have had discipline or behavioral problems. Loris is openly gay, and he's dealing with a number of students who either are gay or lesbian, while others have shown homophobic tendencies. Loris tries to use his position to teach his students about understanding and accepting themselves and one another, while pondering the way we view sex and gender in our culture. The students also explore homophobic behavior that surrounds them, ranging from violence both threatened and real to the common use of phrases like "that's so gay." Fit was adapted by Rikki Beadle Blair from his play of the same name, which was originally written for teenagers as part of a workshop on youth and homophobia; it was also his first feature film as a director, and received its North American debut at the 2010 San Francisco International LBGT Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

One of several British series to feature predominantly gay characters, the six-episode seriocomedy Metrosexuality was set in a Notting Hill neighborhood. The emphasis was on a group of friends, acquaintances, and lovers, headed by Ricky Beadle-Blair (who also wrote and directed the series) as Max. The series' hand-held camera seemed to be in perpetual motion, while the basic cast of characters underwent an astonishing number of changes and additions within the series' short lifespan. Metrosexuality joined Channel 4's prime-time lineup on February 21, 2001. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The birth of the gay rights movement gets a fictionalized treatment in this drama based loosely on the acclaimed documentary of the same name by Martin Duberman. In 1969, Matty Dean (Fred Weller) arrives in New York City's Greenwich Village hoping that life there will provide the sexual liberation forbidden to him by his small town upbringing. Matty falls in love with LaMiranda (Guillermo Diaz), a cross-dresser who introduces him to the regulars at the infamous Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar. He is shocked, however, to learn that the NYPD regularly raids the Stonewall, harassing the clientele and closeted owner Vinnie (Bruce MacVitte). After one such incident, Matty ends up in jail, where he's attracted to Ethan (Brendan Corbalis), a gay activist preaching a moderate policy of conformity and peaceful protest. The latter is not possible, however, when police storm the Stonewall yet again and, led by Vinnie's lover Bustonia (Duane Boutte), enraged drag queens fight back in a riot of historical significance. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi
