Twenty-two people become unwitting participants in a tragic and defining moment of the 1960's in this period drama from actor and director Emilio Estevez. It's early June in 1968, and the California presidential primary elections are occupying the minds of many in the Golden State, with Robert F. Kennedy in a close race against Eugene McCarthy and Hubert Humphrey. The Kennedy campaign staff has set up camp at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, while the staff and guests become observers as the brother of fallen president John F. Kennedy sets out to pick up where his sibling left off. Paul (William H. Macy) is the manager of the Ambassador, and his wife Miriam (Sharon Stone) is a hairdresser who runs's the hotel's beauty salon. Angela (Heather Graham) is a receptionist working the hotel's switchboard who has been sleeping with Paul behind Miriam's back. Timmons (Christian Slater) is in charge of the hotel's restaurant and catering department, and makes no secret of his dislike of the African-Americans and Latinos under his employ. Miguel (Jacob Vargas) and Jose (Freddy Rodriguez) are two young Chicanos on the kitchen staff who have it in for Timmons, while Robinson (Laurence Fishburne) is an older black man who counsels them on dealing with their rage. Virginia Fallon (Demi Moore) sings in the hotel's cocktail lounge and has a serious problem with alcohol; her husband Tim (Emilio Estevez) is a Kennedy supporter and also her manager, and he's nearing the end of his rope in dealing with her problem. William (Elijah Wood) is a young man desperate to avoid being drafted and sent to Vietnam; Diane (Lindsay Lohan) is a pretty young woman dating William's brother who agrees to marry him so William can avoid being drafted, though William is clearly infatuated with her while she considers this a marriage in name only. John Casey (Anthony Hopkins) is one of the owners of the Ambassador, and Nelson (Harry Belafonte) is an old friend who works at the hotel. And Jack (Martin Sheen) is a wealthy Kennedy campaign financier who is married to Samantha (Helen Hunt), an attractive but much younger woman. Bobby also features Joshua Jackson, Nick Cannon and Shia LaBeouf as young Kennedy campaign volunteers, while Ashton Kutcher, Joy Bryant, Kip Pardue and Mary Elizabeth Winstead also highlight the supporting cast. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A horse of a different pattern becomes a spoiler in a high-stakes race in the family-friendly comedy-drama. Nolan Walsh (Bruce Greenwood) is a farmer who once earned his living training racehorses before his wife was killed in an accident while riding, which led him to leave the racing game. Nolan tends to his farm and looks after his daughter Channing (Hayden Panettiere) and a large flock of animals, who speak to one another but not to humans. After a traveling circus passes through town, a zebra pony is left behind; Nolan takes in the animal, intending to return it to the circus, but at Channing's insistence they keep the zebra, naming him Stripes (voiced by Frankie Muniz). Channing loves Stripes, and the zebra is welcomed by the other critters on the farm, including grumpy Shetland pony Tucker (voiced by Dustin Hoffman), slow-moving hound dog Lightning (voiced by Snoop Dogg), a New Jersey-born pelican named Goose (voiced by Joe Pantoliano), skinny-brained rooster Reggie (voiced by Jeff Foxworthy), and deep-thinking goat Franny (voiced by Whoopi Goldberg). Channing discovers that Stripes can outrun nearly any horse around, and Woodzie (M. Emmett Walsh), a local character who has spent years handicapping the ponies, is convinced the zebra would be shoo-in in the Kentucky Open, a prestigious race held at the estate of champion horse breeder Clara Dalrymple (Wendie Malick). Channing believes Stripes can win, but he'll need the help of Nolan, who isn't so sure he's ready to start training again; meanwhile, Stripes gets plenty of advice from the other farm animals about his big step onto the race track. Duncan (Joshua Jackson), a depressed twentysomething living in a rundown section of Minneapolis, has just lost another job. He has another source of income, letting his brother use his apartment for extramarital trysts. On a rare visit to his grandparents, Ronald (Donald Sutherland) and Ruth (Louise Fletcher), Duncan meets Kate (Juliette Lewis), Ronald's spirited home health-care worker. Later, when Duncan learns that there's an opening for a handyman in the building, he takes the job. He begins to spend more time with his grandparents, hanging out with Ronald, who, among his many health problems, suffers from Parkinson's disease. He also has occasion to see Kate, and the two cautiously begin a romantic relationship. Kate is "one of those people," as Duncan puts it, who moved to Minneapolis because of the Replacements. Unlike Duncan, who has never left Minneapolis, Kate has never stayed in any one place for too long. She's anxious to get out and explore the world, while Duncan seems immobilized. Yet they connect, if only for a time. As Duncan reconnects with his grandparents and grows more intimate with Kate, he begins to deal with his grief over the sudden death of his father. Meanwhile, with his health deteriorating, Ronald begins to think of ending his life, and turns to his grandson for help. A hot young celebrity discovers fame can be a toxic substance in this independent drama. Gray Evans (Giovanni Ribisi) is a successful actor in his late twenties who would seem to have it made. Gray is married to an attractive actress with a solid career of her own, Mia Lang (Franka Potente), he's got several projects in the works, he gets lots of fan mail, and he gets to hang out at ritzy parties with his heroes. But Gray is far from happy; his marriage to Mia is starting to fall apart, and he's being driven to distraction by his obsessive belief that a fan is stalking him. As Gray struggles to separate his delusions from reality, he finds himself indulging in a bit of stalking of his own, as he begins following John (Joshua Jackson), a clerk at a video store who is a big fan of his movies. The way Gray sees it, John is happier than he is, John's pretty wife, Jane (Marisa Coughlan), loves him while Mia doesn't care for him any more, and all in all he'd just as soon trade lives with the guy. In the midst of all this, Gray has recently run into Shana (Christina Ricci), a former flame he'd like to reconnect with. Directed by actor Adam Goldberg, I Love Your Work features a number of major stars in cameo roles, including Vince Vaughn, Jason Lee, and Elvis Costello. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

The sixth and final season of Dawson's Creek begins just as summer of Dawson Leery's 19th year is drawing to a close. Having spent the summer in Hollywood as an assistant film director, Dawson returns to his native Massachusetts, there to work on a location shoot of the horror epic "Wicked Dead" under the tutelage of bombastic moviemaker Todd Carr (Hal Ozsan). This will be quite an experience for Dawson, especially when he hooks up with the film's tempestuous star Natasha Kelly (Bianca Kajlich); and when Todd storms off the set in disgust, Dawson is afforded his first opportunity to be a full-fledged director. Likewise back from L.A. are Dawson's pal Pacey (Joshua Jackson) -- who will soon take a job at brokerage firm run by slickster Rich Rinaldi (Dana Ashbrook) -- and Pacey's latest tootsie Audrey Lidell (Busy Philipps), who happens to be the extremely unstable college roommate of Dawson's off-and-on girlfriend Joey (Katie Holmes). As for Jen (Michelle Williams), the girl to whom Dawson finally "gave it up" during the previous season, she has returned to Boston Bay College, doing her best to deal with the fact that her fun-loving grandmother Evelyn (Mary Beth Piel) has decided to enroll as well. Additionally, the beleaguered Jack McPhee (Kerr Smith), having come to terms with his own homosexuality, has a new boyfriend named David (Greg Rikaart). As the season rolls on, Jen is attracted to college peer counselor CJ (Jensen Ackles), Joey begins going out with a bartender named Eddie Dooling (Oliver Hudson), and Audrey lands a job as a rock singer, breaking up with Pacey and developing a dangerous dependency on booze in the process. Several more plot twists and turns later, the series arrives at its final two-hour episode, set five years in the future. Dawson is now a major TV producer, turning out a semi-autobiographical series called "The Creek" (which, like Dawson's Creek, is seen on Wednesday nights!); Pacey owns a restaurant, and Jack is a teacher, dating Pacey's brother Doug; Audrey has straightened out her personal problems and is touring with a big-name band; Joey has a thriving career as a book editor in Manhattan; and Jen is now a single mom and the manager of an art gallery. A happy ending? Not quite...not with the tragic pall hanging over the familiar characters, due to Jen's very fragile health. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A rag-tag group of con artists and ex-cons team up for the heist to end all heists in this high-profile remake of the 1960 Rat Pack favorite. As with its predecessor, Ocean's Eleven opens with its titular hero Danny Ocean (George Clooney stepping into the Frank Sinatra role) eager for a new challenge. The similarities to the original end there, as Ocean conspires with his old pal Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) to rob 150 million dollars from an underground vault that serves three of Las Vegas' biggest casinos. Between the two of them, they recruit nine other men, each with his own criminal specialty, to assist in the mission: moneyman Reuben Tishkoff (Elliot Gould), card dealer Frank (Bernie Mac), pickpocket Linus (Matt Damon), aging con artist Saul (Carl Reiner), British explosives pro Basher (Don Cheadle), techie Dell (Eddie Jemison), rude-boy brothers Virgil (Casey Affleck) and Turk (Scott Caan), and professional acrobat Yen (Shaobo Qin). What Ocean doesn't tell the group is that there's another reason he's coordinating the heist: the three casinos they're robbing are all owned by ruthless gambling mogul Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia), who just happens to be married to Ocean's former love Tess (Julia Roberts). Ocean's Eleven was updated by scribe Ted Griffin and marked the third feature shot by director Steven Soderbergh under the alias Peter Andrews. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

Season five of Dawson's Creek finds 18-year-old Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek) fulfilling a lifelong dream by entering the USC film school. Even better, he lands a directorial internship in Hollywood -- but alas, the job lasts only as long as it takes egotistical movie director Todd Carr (Hal Ozsan) to fire Dawson. Meanwhile, Dawson's off-and-on girlfriend Joey (Katie Holmes) is enrolled at Worthington University, pining away for her high-school sweetheart. Joey's uninhibited Beverly Hills-bred roommate, Audrey Lidell (Busy Philipps), advises Joey to forget Dawson and sow a few wild oats -- which she does, with handsome Professor David Wilder (Ken Marino). Back in Massachusetts, Jen Lindley (Michelle Williams) and Jack McPhee (Kerr Smith) are attending Boston Bay College, when Jen enters into an affair with musician Charlie Todd (Chad Michael Murphy). And Dawson's pal Pacey, who has no intention of entering college (as if he would qualify!) is working at a restaurant and squiring a waitress named Karen Torres (Lourdes Benedicto) -- who, in turn, is sleeping with her married boss, Danny (Ian Kahn). Dropping out of USC, a disillusioned Dawson returns to Capeside, just before his dad, Mitch (John Wesley Shipp), is killed in a car accident. Now Dawson has all the more reason to remain home: he is undergoing psychiatric care to deal with his dad's death, and must stick around to comfort his mom, Gail (Mary-Margaret Humes). As the season progresses, Dawson finally loses his virginity -- to Jen. They move in together, but find they have less in common than they thought. Meanwhile, Charlie pressures Joey to accompany him on his band tour, Pacey spends a passionate night with Joey's roomie Audrey, and Jack attempts suicide after flunking out of school and losing his latest boyfriend in one fell swoop. Season five concludes as Joey prepares to take her long-delayed Paris vacation, Pacey goes to work as a security guard, Jack accompanies Jen to Costa Rica, and Dawson revs up for a wild time in L.A....but with whom? ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The blurry line between a rumor and the truth is stretched to the breaking point in this drama. Three arrogant and self-centered college students, Jones (Lena Headey), Derek (James Marsden), and Travis (Norman Reedus), are brought together for a class project, in which they decide to start a rumor and keep track of how it spreads. Looking for possible gossip material, they see Naomi (Kate Hudson), a girl known for her high-minded views on saving sex for marriage, drunkenly making out with Bo (Joshua Jackson) at a party. The three students begin passing around the rumor that Naomi became a victim of date rape later that evening, embroidering the truth with allegations that Bo forcibly seduced Naomi after she was too inebriated to put up a fight. Before long, the rumor makes its way back to Naomi herself, who suffered a black-out on the night in question after too much alcohol. Naomi panics, and convinced that the rumor is true, contacts the police, who assign Detective Kelly (Sharon Lawrence) to investigate the charges of rape filed against Bo. Featuring a cast of young actors best known for their work on television, Gossip was an appropriate first feature film for director Davis Guggenheim, who previously distinguished himself on such TV series as ER, NYPD Blue, and Party of Five. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Season three of Dawson's Creek opens shortly after the divorce of Dawson Leery's parents, with 16-year-old aspiring filmmaker Dawson (James Van Der Beek) having spent the summer with his mom in Philadelphia. Back in Capeside, MA, Joey (Katie Holmes) is down on herself big-time for having broken up with Dawson just when he needed her most -- though Dawson himself has been consoling himself with the company of "mystery woman" Eve Whitman (Brittany Daniel), whose quirky antisocial behavior alters many lives when she herself arrives in Capeside. Meanwhile, Dawson's dad, Mitch (John Wesley Shipp), has become the local high-school football coach, with Jack McPhee (Kerr Smith) as the team's top player, a fact that causes a bit consternation for Jack, who still hasn't fully "come out" as a homosexual. Jack's sister Andie (Meredith Monroe) returns to town, recovered from her mental breakdown. With Dawson apparently out of the picture, his pal Pacey (Joshua Jackson) begins dating Joey -- a situation that causes a rift between the two buddies. And Dawson and Joey's onetime mutual "amour" Jen (Michelle Williams) starts going out with Henry Parker (Michael Pitt), but breaks off the relationship after an unpleasant scene at the junior prom. Notable episodes this season include "Escape From Witch Island," a full-blooded lampoon of The Blair Witch Project, and "Stolen Kisses," which introduces Rodney Scott as Will Krudski, who would later be spun off into his own series, Young Americans.
