At Kate's suggestion, Drew arranges a boy-girl pajama party at his home, replete with sexy Winfred-Louder catalogue models, then invites Oswald and Lewis, with the intention of sneaking out and visiting Tracy in the course of the evening Alas, Cleveland is hit with a heavy snowstorm, leaving all of the guys alone and dateless--whereupon Oswald and Lewis plot an elaborate "swing dancing" revenge against Drew. To save the eyesight of his pet dog Speedy, Drew(Drew Carey) agrees to put him in an experimental treatment program at DrugCo, where Lewis (Ryan Stiles) has been promoted to head janitor. When Lewis' boss Mr. Hathaway (Charles Nelson Reilly) refuses to let anyone know what has happened to the missing Speedy, Drew and the gang embark upon a treacherous journey into the Heart of DrugCo Darkness, witnessing many strange sights along the way--including a giant talking cockroach, an "epiphany" globe, and a mutant "monkopotamus." Season Four of The Drew Carey Show begins with a series of bizarre work-related accidents befalling our hero Drew Carey (playing himself). It couldn't be that there is a conspiracy against Drew, could there? Oh, yes, there could--and the conspirators turn out to be a trio of Winfred-Louder coworkers (Kevin McDonald, Kevin Weisman and Tracy Letts) who for various reasons have been sabotaging Drew for nine whole years! Elsewhere, Mimi (Kathy Kinney) tries out some "mood makeup" which yields fascinating results during her brief romantic fling with a guy named Ron (Gregory Jbara; and Oswald (Diedrich Bader) still hasn't forgiven Kate (Christa Miller) for jilting him at the altar. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Fan alert: Here's where the "Shirley Jones" storyline gets under way. Angling for a promotion, Drew (Drew Carey) begins taking night classes toward a master's degree in statistics. His study partner is a 62-year-old woman named Celia (Shirley Jones), with whom he forms a strong bond. A chaste romantic relationship develops, much to the dismay (and mockery) of Drew's friends. Ultimately, Celia grows distant, compelling Drew to track her down at her favorite billiard parlor to find out what's the matter. And, say: Why is Mimi (Kathy Kinney) dressed up like the Virgin Mary? ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld) thinks it's a good thing that he is number one on his girlfriend's speed dial -- but it isn't. Apprehensive about the approaching millennium, Kramer (Michael Richards) decides to hold his New Year's Eve party two years early. George (Jason Alexander) connives to get fired by the Yankees so he can accept what he thinks is a better job with the Mets. The Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step plan is the motivating factor of this episode. But there's more, much more, beginning with Jerry's naked girlfriend Melissa (Kathleen McClellan). Also, Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) goes head-to-head with a germophobic co-worker; George (Jason Alexander) is humiliated by an apology (not his own); and Kramer (Michael Richards) decides to put a garbage disposal in his bathtub. The first season of Everybody Loves Raymond drew heavily upon the standup routines of comedian Ray Romano, who depicted himself as a loving but befuddled husband and father of three children, bedeviled by his own overbearing Italian-American parents and a jealous older brother who happened to be a policeman. In the series proper, Romano played Ray Barone, Long Island-based sportswriter for New York Newsday. Ray, his wife, Debra (Patricia Heaton), and their three children lived next door to Ray's parents, bombastic Frank (Peter Boyle) and snoopy Marie (Doris Roberts). Frank and Marie in turn lived with Ray's older brother, a divorced cop named Robert (Brad Garrett), who still harbored a childhood jealousy for his younger sibling. In the pilot episode, Ray's three children were played by the Ferreira children: Amber, Drew, and Justin. The youngest kids, twin boys, were named Matthew and Gregory (after Romano's real-life children), while the six-year-old daughter was not identified by name. Thereafter, the children were known as Ally, Michael, and Geoffrey, and were played by members of the Sweeten family: Madylin, Sullivan, and Sawyer. During season one, a handful of semi-regulars were introduced, among them Ray's friend Andy (Andy Kindler), a sports statistician; Nemo (Joseph V. Perry), the owner of the pizza parlor; and Amy MacDougall (Monica Horan), Robert's off-and-on girlfriend. Also firmly established was the intensely combative relationship between Ray's parents, who also had a cute habit (cute to everyone but Ray's long-suffering spouse Debra) of dropping into their son's house unannounced and poking their noses into everyone else's business. More welcome drop-ins occurred whenever Ray's sports-world friends -- usually celebrity athletes and famous TV commentators -- opted to pay a visit to the series. Despite languishing in a low-rated Friday-night slot, Everybody Loves Raymond quickly became a critical favorite, encouraging CBS to move the series to a more advantageous Monday-night berth in mid-season. Though the ratings didn't exactly go through the roof, the series garnered enough of a fan following to warrant a second season. ~ All Movie Guide
