The popular British comedy duo of Gareth Hale and Norman Pace were the prime creative forces behind this two-part miniseries, which represented the team's big move from ITV to BBC. The setting was a small town populated by zanies, none zanier than a pair of nonspeaking roommates named Nobby (Gareth Hale) and Ginge (Norman Pace). The plot, what there was of it, concerned Nobby's mute but ardent pursuit of the gorgeous lady next door (Miranda Baker). Oddbods made its British TV bow on August 31, 1998. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Based on the board game of the same name, the British TV series Trivial Pursuit joined the BBC1 lineup in 1990. The six initial episodes, hosted by Rory McGrath, more or less stuck to the rules of the original game, in which the players advanced up or down a board by answering trivia questions. After completing its single-season BBC1 run in 1991, Trivial Pursuit returned in considerably altered fashion on Britain's Family Channel cable service in 1993. Hosted by Tony Slattery, this version favored speed and flashy graphics over strict adherence to the board game, and also found the contestants playing more rounds with a wider variety of question-and-answer categories. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Although only comedian Vic Reeves' name appeared in the titles, he co-starred on this surrealistic British sketch-comedy series with his longtime stage and writing partner Bob Mortimer. While most of the skits and gags were one-shots, the series also contained a number of wild recurring features, among them "Wavy Davy" and "Novelty Island." Fred Aylward also appeared on a weekly basis. Fourteen half-hour episodes of Vic Reeves' Big Night Out, together with one 45-minute and one hour-long "special," were telecast from 1990 to 1991. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
