Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Curtis (Benjamin Bratt) learn that a murdered coed was in a relationship with college professor Miguel Clemente (Miguel Sandoval). Of equal interest to the D.A.'s office are two other suspects, a pair of male students with seemingly airtight alibis. The original print ads for this episode were right on the money when they promised "Shocking evidence will uncover the truth." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The D.A.'s office has quite a full docket in this episode. Vital ingredients include an assault on a former attorney, a messy divorce, the death of a patient during a routine operation, charges of criminal negligence leveled against two doctors, and a significant name spoken in passing. As A.D.A. Abbie Carmichael, actress Angie Harmon provides most of the episode's dramatic intensity. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
A building superintendent is found murdered, and the chief suspect is the man's 17-year-old son, Sean McKinnon (Gabriel Olds). The boy insists that his father was abusive, and that he acted in self defense. The investigation conducted by the D.A.'s office is virtually frozen in its tracks by the obstreperous, self-protective behavior of the dead man's family. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
