Diane Keaton could not be further removed from Annie Hall if she'd taken a rocket to Mars in this gut-wrenching made-for-cable drama. Keaton is cast as widowed mother Patsy McCartle, who finds herself totally unable to support her two sons--the youngest of whom desperately needs medication for his asthsma--when she loses her waitress job. In a highly vulnerable state, Patsy succumbs to an offer made by a shady character named Roger Hopkins (Michael Rooker) and begins dealing crystal methamphetamine. At first the job seems easy, but the more she deals, the deeper she becomes involved in a deadly drug cartel--and worse, she becomes a meth addict herself. It is up to her sons to come to Patsy's rescue, if her criminal cohorts don't get to her first. At the time this film was made, the woman on whom the main character is based was in the Witness Protection Program. Executive-produced by star Keaton, On Thin Ice debuted November 3, 2003 on the Lifetime channel. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
This weekend-morning fantasy series for kids largely took place in a sinister-looking prep school called Blake Holsey High. Because of the preponderance of curious phenomena that occurred within the walls of the school -- from spontaneously combustible desks to mysteriously disappearing freshmen -- the place was known as "Black Hole High" to its students. The individual episodes dealt with the efforts of five teenaged detectives, members all of the school's science clubs, to solve the various paranormal mysteries occurring on campus. The main characters included the analytical Josie (Emma Taylor Isherwood), the overachieving Corrine (Shadia Simmons), the popular but strangely secretive Vaughn (Robert Clark), precocious conspiracy theorist Lucas (Michael Seater), and the cheerfully geeky Marshall (Noah Reid). In keeping with the prosocial edicts of American network television, the series was careful to balance its science-fiction content with a healthy dose of science fact. Filmed at Auchmar Estate, a 150-year-old former monastery near Hamilton, Ontario, Strange Days at Blake Holsey High debuted October 5, 2002, as part of the three-hour Discovery Kids on NBC Saturday-morning programming block. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The authorities have given up, but Elizabeth (Shelley Long) has not. Someone has kidnapped Elizabeth's 13-year-old daughter, and she is determined to find both the girl and the abductor. Even when the existing evidence points to Elizabeth's death, Elizabeth refuses to relinquish her quest, hounding the police into taking action upon the slightest of clues. Things of it is, the villain of the story has been hiding in plain sight all along. Made for television, Vanished Without a Trace was originally telecast by NBC on February 1, 1999. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
