Hollywood meets Bollywood in director Lorraine Senna's Pygmalion-like tale of a Tinseltown hanger-on who attempts to transform a Himalayan village belle into an A-list American celebrity. Having recently arrived in America to discover the man she was arranged to marry is far from the man of her dreams, Himalayan girl Shalini (Namrata Singh Gujral) sets out to seek her fortune in a foreign land where anything seems possible. Little does Shalini realize that southern-bred west-coast import Rob (Brad Raider) is attempting to make a name for himself in show-business, and has recently been challenged by the CEO of a Hollywood management company (Beau Bridges) pluck a superstar out of thin air. Now, as Shalini becomes Shelley and Rob does his best to school the culturally inquisitive beauty in the ways of Western society, the opportunity to see the world from an entirely different perspective prompts both to reevaluate their lives as love begins to blossom and the quest for fame takes a back seat to romance. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The ABC series That Was Then was a less comic variation on the premise of the like-vintage WB sitcom Do Over. James Bulliard starred as Travis Glass, a 29-year-old salesman who was still living with his parents. A perennial loser, Travis would give anything to return to his youth and correct past mistakes; more specifically, he would like to correct the glaring social error which drove his high-school sweetheart Claudia (Kiele Sanchez) into the arms of Travis' obnoxious brother Gregg (Brad Raider). Then on the eve of his 30th birthday, while listening to the Kinks' "Do It Again," Travis was miraculously thrust back to the year 1988 -- thereby getting his chance to use the knowledge and the experience gleaned in adulthood to straighten out the life of his "teenaged" self. Described by co-creators Daniel Cohn and Jeremy Miller as Back to the Future meets The Wonder Years, That Was Then premiered September 27, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

After getting kicked out of law school, fast-talking Jay Garvey (Brad Raider) and his failed medical school pal, Nick (Sean Murray), discover that the wild beach partiers during college spring break need legal assistance to stay out of jail. Their business takes off, with Jay double-talking the judge into acquittals and Nick writing phony doctor's notes for defendants, until Jay becomes a local pop culture legend. But self-righteous Senator Claxton (Gary Grubbs) decides to crack down on the rampant juvenile behavior with maximum penalties, and Jay and Nick get tossed into the slammer for minor offenses. Meanwhile, the case of a pathetic innocent who was railroaded into jail increases in importance -- particularly with Jay's ostensible girlfriend, Jenny (Busy Philipps) -- and Jay has to use all of his pseudo legal skills to get himself and Nick out of jail to save the day. ~ Buzz McClain, Rovi
