Meredith Vieira Movies

After earning a degree from Tufts University, Meredith Vieira began a career in the media with a job as a radio personality for a station in Massachusetts. She made her way to television, rising through a series of bigger and bigger local markets until she found a steady job at the network owned and operated WCBS in New York. She began appearing on television programs such as West 57th and 60 Minutes, leading to an offer to change networks from ABC. She accepted that job, becoming a regular contributor to Turning Point, a show that was canceled in 1997. Vieira landed on her feet, however, as a co-host of the Barbara Walters-hosted morning talk show The View. Her popularity rose steadily, eventually leading to a stint hosting the daytime syndicated version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? In 2006, she was tapped to replace Katie Couric as the host of The Today Show on NBC. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

Per its title, thePBS special Fat: What No One is Telling You weighs in on obesity - that silent and subtly menacing American epidemic that afflicts a whopping 66% of U.S. adults. In lieu of exploring the oft-mentioned physiological dangers of this problem, however, this documentary raises the key question of why fat can be so difficult to shed - with a glimpse at the contributing factors in the psychological, physiological and emotional realms. In so doing, the film pulls in revelatory information about hunger, metabolism, and gastronomic consumption. As an added bonus, the film features candid and intimate interviews with everyday Americans who recount sobering stories about the obstacles that, for them, stand in the way of a trim and healthy body. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Although the once-hot game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? had lost its luster as a prime-time ABC offering, the producers felt that there was enough life left in the property to warrant a Monday-through-Friday syndicated version. Taking over from the earlier series' host Regis Philbin was Meredith Vieira of The View. To make certain that the series would not be bankrupted after its first week on the air, the questions posed to contestants were considerably harder than those on the prime-time incarnation. Also, the famous "fastest finger" round was eliminated, taking some of the pressure off the contestants when they struggled to come up with answers. The most noteworthy change from the original version was the absence of Regis Philbin's familiar catchphrases: One would never hear Meredith Vieira chime in with the legendary "Is that your final answer?" The syndicated Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? was launched on September 16, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Sports Night co-anchors Dan (Josh Charles) and Casey (Peter Krause) have been following a developing story out of Tennessee involving the suspension of student athletes who have protested the flying of the Confederate flag. The network's CEO Luther Sachs is an alumnus and benefactor of the same school in the report and orders Isaac (Robert Guillaume) to prepare a segment explaining the importance of the flag in Southern history. As Isaac gives him the assignment, an incredulous Dan argues that Isaac should instead prepare an op-ed piece to support the students and demand their reinstatement back into school. After some thought, Isaac does just that -- prompting both the unanimous support and admiration from his staff and a call from his angry boss. Meanwhile, Casey makes an appearance on the popular daytime talk show The View and undeservedly takes credit for his snappy wardrobe, when in fact all his clothes are chosen by Sports Night's wardrobe department. Back in the studio, Dan points out Casey's apparent lack of regard for the rest of the crew while one of the wardrobe assistants comes down on him for taking the credit for her department's work. ~ Ryan Shriver, All Movie Guide
