Holly Irving Movies
This episode hauls out "Standad Sitcom Situation #4001", in which one of the main characters allows a unexpected burst of authority to go to his or her head. In this instance, Shirley (Cindy Williams) gets a promotion at the brewery, moving from the bottle-cap assembly line to a supervisory position. Before long, the newly arrogant Shirley is driving everyone crazy--especially Laverne (Penny Marshall)--with her "revolutionary" ideas about improving efficiency. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Chet Kelly (Tim Donnelly) drives his fellow firefighters crazier than usual when he forces them to go on a "nutritious" diet consisting of such unappetizing items as dried toast and figs. On the job, Roy (Kevin Tighe) and John (Randolph Mantooth) rescue a man from a huge fish tank and face a double emergency involving a pregnant woman and her ailing mother, while the doctors tend to a youngster who has fallen ill after ingesting raw cake dough just before his birthday party. And in a grim development, Captain Stanley (Michael Norell) suffers a severe shock from a fallen power line. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Larry Peerce directed this tired disaster movie about a mad sniper loose in a football stadium. At the beginning, the sniper picks off a cyclist for practice and then takes roost in the top tower of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Sent in to stop the terror is Captain Peter Holly (Charlton Heston), who wants to get his hands on the sniper without endangering the lives of the people in the stadium. Unfortunately, there is a second group of law enforcement officers, a tactical commando group, who want to go into the stadium and rush the sniper -- regardless of the danger such an action would cause to the crowd watching the game. The sniper plans to start blasting at the two-minute warning signal of the football game. Holly has to find the sniper before the two-minute warning is given -- not merely to prevent the killings threatened by the sniper but to head off the tactical force before any other unnecessary deaths are incurred by the force's bulldog techniques. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

The doctors and paramedics encounter unexpected difficulties while planning a surprise party for head nurse Dixie (Julie London)--especially when it appears that she won't even show up due to a broken ankle. Back on the job, the team rushes to the rescue when a 1000-pound advertising sign threatens to collapse on two workers, a man is stuck in his own sauna bath, and and stubborn old woman becomes trapped in a an apartment building that will soon explode. Former Dick Van Dyke Show regular Ann Morgan Guilbert has a rather prickly cameo role as a motorcyclist who has landed in a cactus patch. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The slimy denizens of the Everglades organize a particularly nasty rebellion in this enjoyable entry from the "nature-run-amok" horror subgenre which favored drive-in venues of the mid-'70s. The story takes place amid the festivities honoring the birthday of crotchety, wheelchair-bound Southern patriarch Jason Crockett (Ray Milland), a chemical-industry magnate whose pesticides are responsible for much of the toxic pollution found in the swamplands. The revelry ends quickly, however, when thousands of local fauna decide to crash the party. Under the apparent telepathic guidance of the less-than-menacing swamp bullfrogs, armies of snakes, insects, and snapping turtles tear their way through the cast. Competent direction, great use of swampland ambience, and spooky sound effects help provide a suitably large dose of the creepy-crawlies. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

- Ray Milland, Sam Elliott, (more)
Neighbors in suburban Los Angeles segue a meeting to stop freeway construction into a sexual romp. A housewife (Ann Summers) gives in to the primal urges of her neighbor, (Clark Gordon) an erotic novelist. While her husband (Bernard Barrow) is off with his mistress (Jennifer O'Neill) at a forest retreat, she decides to have some fun on her own. Her husband's business partner (Philip Pine) has his eyes on their nubile 19 year old daughter (Deirdre Lenihan) who heart and the rest of her body belongs to daddy. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

Versatile composer-conductor-comic actor Frank DeVol (remember him as "Happy Kyne" on Fernwood 2-Night?) is cast in this episode as Stew, an old friend of Prof. Russ Lawrence (Don Porter). Called out of town on business, Russ invites Stew to spend the weekend as his house guest. Unfortunately, Russ' daughter Gidget (Sally Field) is unaware of this--and when she begins hearing strange noises on a dark and stormy night, she's convinced that the Lawrence house is haunted! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
