Peter Serafinowicz Movies
Offbeat, highly individualistic British character player Peter Serafinowicz broke into film courtesy of radio, with a head-turning contribution to a tongue-in-cheek documentary about the music industry on England's Radio 1, entitled The Knowledge. That led, in turn, to a wealth of voice assignments on various Radio 4 series, including Grievous Bodily Radio, Harry Hill's Fruit Corner, and Weekending. Serafinowicz segued into features with a plum role in 1997's Murder Most Horrid before making a splash as Brian May on the spoof-heavy BBC sketch comedy program Comedy Nation in the late '90s, alongside Sacha Baron Cohen and others; unfortunately, it was somewhat short-lived, though successive projects afforded Serafinowicz greater exposure. He found his bread and butter on British television, in series including Spaced and World of Pub, but broke into features with roles in the outrageous horror comedy spoof Shaun of the Dead (2004) and the gentle period coming-of-age drama Sixty Six (2006). ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Their relationship in danger of dissipating, a couple racing to salvage their marriage invites three other couples to join them at a tropical island resort. Upon arriving at the island paradise to enjoy some carefree fun in the sun, the other couples are disturbed to discover that participation in therapy sessions is mandatory if they hope to remain at the resort. A 12-year-old Jewish boy teetering on the cusp of manhood finds his eagerly anticipated Bar Mitzvah threatened by a lethal combination of World Cup fever, the loss of the family business, and the shenanigans of a mischievous elder sibling in a coming-of-age comedy directed by Paul Weiland and starring Helena Bonham Carter, Stephen Rea, and Gregg Sulkin. The year is 1966, and Bernie Rubens (Sulkin) is about to become a man. As the date of his Bar Mitzvah draws nearer, however, it seems like the stars have aligned to prevent it from being the blow-out bash he has always dreamt of. Not only is his wayward older brother drawing away all the attention in the family, but his father's business is slowly going down the drain as well. To make matters worse, England has finally fought their way to the World Cup Final, and the big game is scheduled for the very same day as Bernie's Bar Mitzvah. It's often said that the true character of a man is only revealed in times of dire crisis, and for likable, lovelorn loser Shaun (Simon Pegg), that moment of reckoning came when the dead rose from their slumber to feast on the flesh of the living. A hapless electronics store employee who spends most of his spare time downing pints at the local pub with his roommate, Ed (Nick Frost), Shaun's life seems to fall apart when he is dumped by his girlfriend, Liz (Kate Ashfield), and his obnoxious stepfather, Philip (Bill Nighy), shows up to berate him for not being more attentive to his caring mother Barbara (Penelope Wilton) -- especially since he forgot to send flowers for her birthday. Things take a turn for the worse when the dead return to stake their claim on the Earth, and though the chaos that follows threatens to swallow up all of England, it's up to Shaun to keep his cool and prove himself once and for all by successfully rescuing Liz and his mother. Based on a BBC radio series of the same name, the British TV sitcom World of Pub starred Phil Cornwell and Peter Serafinowicz as Barry and Garry, the owners of the single most unsuccessful public house (or bar) in London's East End. In their efforts to improve what little business they had, Barry and Garry were susceptible to the outrageous promotional schemes of their buddy Dodgy Phil (Kevin Eldon). These schemes, which ran the gamut from a chug-a-lug competition to transforming the pub into a Michael Caine-themed establishment, were invariably doomed to hilarious failure.
