Frank Peppiatt and John Aylesworth, the Canadian production team who later struck gold with the American series Hee Haw, were among the instigators of the CBC game show Flashback (Syd Wayne was another of the series' creators). In the tradition of Front Page Challenge, a panel of four celebrities had to correctly identify people or events that had made headlines. But unlike the earlier series, the panelists had to make their guesses based on headlines of the past -- often many, many decades in the past. Each episode included a "mystery" guest, who had been chosen on his or her nostalgia value, while the viewers at home were invited to submit their own questions, in hopes of winning great sums of money for stumping the "experts." A popular Sunday-night CBC fixture, Flashback was telecast from September 23, 1962 to June 16, 1968. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A brief replacement for the Canadian variety series Swing Gently, Fancy Free shared the same production personnel as its predecessor. Telecast on Thursday evenings, the series trafficked heavily in nostalgia, with an abundance of jazz, swing, and big-band tunes from past decades. Each episode re-created a specific year, with the regulars and the guest stars appropriately garbed in period costume. Fancy Free aired over the CBC from October 6 to December 29, 1960. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Canadian singer Eleanor Collins starred in two separate CBC variety shows, both of which bore her first name as the title. The first version of Eleanor was a 30-minute weekly, telecast between June 19 and September 11, 1955. Collins returned for a second series, this one lasting minutes per program, from February 1 to March 28, 1964. Both editions of Eleanor were produced at the CBC's Vancouver facilities, and both featured the star's longtime accompanist Chris Gage. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
