The title character in this three-part British miniseries was handsome tennis player Lysander Hawkley, played by Stephen Billington. Lysander regarded it as his mission in life to "repair" the marriages of unhappy wealthy couples. To do this, of course, it was necessary to romance the wives in question so as to arouse the latent jealousy of the husbands -- who, as it generally turned out, were even less faithful than their drifting spouses. Based on the novel by best-selling British author Jilly Cooper, this drama looks at the highly competitive world of equestrian show-jumping. Jake Lovell (Michael Praed), a gypsy half-breed born into poverty, has through hard work and his remarkable skill with horses risen to the top among competitive riders. Jake now finds himself challenging his arch rival Rupert Campbell-Black (Marcus Gilbert), a gifted rider but a contemptible cur off the course; Jake, who is just as sure a hand with women as he is with horses, extends his rivalry off the riding field when he makes a play for Rupert's wife Helen (Arabella Tjye), to whom Rupert is chronically unfaithful. Diana Rigg was virtually the whole show on this flexible British anthology series. In each of the six half-hour episodes of Three Piece Suite, Rigg portrayed three different women in three separate sketches. The story material, written by some of British TV's top wordsmiths, ran the gamut from sentimental drama to gut-busting comedy.
