Originally an episode of the Touched by an Angel spinoff Promised Land, this is the conclusion of a two-part story begun on Angel (and as such is included in the current Angel syndication package. Having been chosen to act as the "eyes" for temporarily inded angel Monica (Roma Downey), young Joshua Greene (Austin O'Brien) is himself rendered sightless in a drive-by shooting. Dr. Serena Hall (Lynn Whitfield) holds Michael Burns (George Newbern), the man who brought Joshua to the inner-city Denver neighborhood where the shooting occurred, responsible for the tragedy, but both Monica and friendly beauty-shop owner Queenie (Jenifer Lewis) do their best to alleviate Michael's guilt feelings. Meanwhile, Joshua's dad Russell (Promised Land star Gerald McRaney) rallies the neighborhood to take a strong stand against gang violence. Evidently, this episode was intended as the pilot for a new series starring George Newbern, which never got off the ground; however, the Denver-ghetto setting would be utilized again during Promised Land's third season. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Chad Everett guest stars as Rev. Daniel Brewster, who is involved in a terrible car accident shortly after presiding over the opening of the Mount Calvary Teen Center. Daniel's son Luke (Christopher Pettit) was killed in the accident, and now the minister is consumed with guilt: Having quarrelled bitterly with his son just before the tragedy, Daniel holds himself responsible for the boy's death. Originally assigned merely to raise funds for the Center and handle the teen hot line, angels Monica (Roma Downey) and Andrew (John Dye) are quick to realize that their job is far from over. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
In this first episode of a two-part story, Monica (Roma Downey) and Tess (Della Reese) work independently to help down-and-out druggie Julia Fitzgerald (Delta Burke) get back on her feet. After several weeks of rehab, Julia is certain that she is ready to make amends for her past misdeeds. Ultimately, the two angels arrange for Julia to return to her home town of Chicory Creek, just in time for Thanksgiving dinner with the Greene family...and, hopefully, a reunion with the son she deserted years before. The concluding half of this story was originally telecast as an episode of the Touched by an Angel spinoff series Promised Land. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
License to Kill is a serious TV movie dealing with the subject of drunken driving. The film begins when a popular high school girl is killed in a head-on collision by inebriated-businessman Don Murray. Though he's had a drinking problem for some time, Murray has dismissed it as a byproduct of the tensions of his job. Facing a manslaughter charge, the well-heeled Murray hires an expensive defense team....while the father of the dead girl (James Farentino), with hardly a penny to his name, is doggedly determined to see that Murray pays for his misdeed to the fullest extent of the law. The conflicting personalities of the two men are counterpointed by the anguish experienced by their wives (Millie Perkins and Penny Fuller). Written by William A. Schwartz, License to Kill debuted on January 10, 1984. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
