Ryan Hurst, Jeremy London, and William Devane star in director Russ Emanuel's docudrama detailing the Federal Trade Commission's case against an independent sales organization seeking to redefine the way Americans use credit cards. Adam (London) and Ross Franklin (Hurst) were still in their twenties when they became millionaires by marketing electronic terminals for credit card transactions. It was the early '90s, and Americans were spending more money than ever before. But while Adam and Ross had ambition to spare, their refusal to acknowledge the demands of others more powerful revealed a certain lack of business savvy. Ignoring government warnings to "respond" to various complaints regarding their practices, the brothers built their modest startup company into a multi-million-dollar empire. But that empire would crumble when the FTC set out to destroy their company at the behest of powerful industry competitors. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Whatever else turns out to be real or false in this film, the antipathy that the office-worker therein has for his overbearing wife is clearly real. Everything else is up for grabs, including the two men whom he discovers in the house when he gets home from work. They claim that he hired them to murder his wife, but he doesn't remember it at all. When his wife comes home, the discussions and arguments continue, culminating in the apparent murder of his wife and the office worker being arrested for it, along with the two hired hit men. Then, he discovers that this whole scenario has been arranged by his wife to keep him distracted while preparations for a surprise birthday party are being made. Then the clerk discovers that the party, too, may have been an imaginary product of someone's dreams. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

This rather dull thriller has the look of contemporary film noir but none of its depth. As the story begins, desperate-for-cash saxophonist Harry Baranski (Patrick Duffy) decides to rob a house. There he meet its owner, Diane (Catherine Hyland) and begins a rather unusual ménage-à-trois. The story is contrived, and the mediocre direction by Frederick Keller and lackluster performances by the entire cast, makes Vamping a not-very-thrilling thriller. ~ Linda Rasmussen, All Movie Guide

- Patrick Duffy, Catherine Hyland, (more)
