Jolene (Celia Weston) appears as a panelist on the TV talk show "Working Women." Her description of working conditions at Mel's Diner succeed in driving all of Mel's customers out of his establishment and into a nearby hamburger joint. As a result, Mel (Vic Tayback) is forced to put his diner--and everything else he owns--up for auction! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Well, it's been a while since Alice (Linda Lavin) has quit her job in a huff, so this episode makes up for lost time. Unfazed by Alice's departure, Mel replaces her with a robot waitress named Blanche (whose body is portrayed by Mitchel Young Evans, while her voice is provided June Whitley Taylor). The mechanical miss proves to be so efficient and so popular with the customers that Mel may never hire Alice back--but remember, never in TV sitcom history has a machine been built that can't be tampered with! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Mel (Vic Tayback) makes the latest in a long line of efforts to improve efficiency at the diner by installing a computer. Alas, our hero has made a fatal error, as proven when clumsy Vera (Beth Howland) gets her hands on the computer and neatly erases all evidence of Mel's existence! This episode originally aired as a last-minute replacement for the long-delayed "Vera's Secret Lover." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
David Rounds makes his first series appearance as Wendell, the shy, self-effacing cousin of bombastic diner owner Mel (Vic Tayback). Newly arrived in Phoenix, Wendell develops a crush on waitress Vera (Beth Howland), but is too timid to declare himself--prompting Mel to dispense some macho-man advice to his nebbishy cousin. This episode was originally taped for Alice's fifth season, but held back until Season Six due to a Hollywood writer's strike. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Cover Girls isn't really a Charlie's Angels rip-off. Honest! Look: there are three girls in Charlie's Angels and only two girls (Jayne Kennedy and Cornelia Sharpe) in Cover Girls. Besides, the Angels are private eyes, working on behalf of boss John Forsythe; the Cover Girls are fashion models, doubling as secret agents on behalf of boss Don Galloway. Just because Cover Girls premiered on May 18, 1977, six months into Charlie's Angels' fabulous first season, doesn't mean that there was any conscious copycatting. Does it? ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Ironside (Raymond Burr) and Ed (Don Galloway) head to London (courtesy of the Universal back lot), there to attend an international police convention. No sooner has he arrived than Ed witnesses the assassination of the British police official--and is subsequently targeted for death himself. To solve the murder and keep his assistant from harm, Ironside works side by side with his old friend and colleague, Superintendant Faber (Lloyd Bochner)...but gradually grows suspicious of Faber's mercurial and oftimes obstructive behavior. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
