The six-season run of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys comes to a rousing climax involving a genuine, bona fide "monster rally." Perhaps hoping to patch up his differences with his wife, Hera (Meg Foster), the god Zeus (Charles Keating) releases her from bondage. Unfortunately, he also accidentally releases the three Titans -- Helios (Phil Grieve), Oceanus (Andrew Kovacevich), and Atlas (David Press), whose combined powers threaten to destroy both Olympus and the Earth. And there's an added threat in the form of Evander (Joseph Main), the all-powerful son of war god Ares (Kevin Smith). For all intents and purposes, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys had run its course by the end of season five. Even so, the producers wanted to generate a larger syndication package, thus the program was renewed for a sixth season -- consisting of a whole eight episodes. With Hercules' traveling companion Iolaus (Michael Hurst) having returned from the dead at the end of the previous season, there is no reason for Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) not to persist in his mission to right wrongs and champion noble causes during his handful of remaining journeys. Again wandering far afield from his native Greece, the mighty muscleman finds himself in ancient Dacia (a.k.a. Transylvania) for a too-close encounter with the infamous Vlad the Impaler, and in Egypt, where Hercules saves Queen Nefertiti from an assassination attempt. Closer to home, Hercules attempts to aid King Oedipus of Crete to regain his throne from the usurping Creon and even prevents a holdup at the First Bank of Greece in Thracia. The climactic episode finds Hercules' immortal father, Zeus (formerly played by Anthony Quinn and Roy Dotrice, now enacted by Charles Keating), attempting to patch up his differences with his wife, Hera (Meg Foster), whose jealousy toward Zeus's half-human son Herc served as motivation for the entire series. As had occurred in virtually every previous episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, the 111th and final installment ends with a humorous "disclaimer," assuring the viewers that nobody was really hurt -- not even gods, demigods, or monsters -- throughout the entire six-year run, though Ancient Mythology itself was given something of a beating! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Family ties and violent crime make strange bedfellows in the thriller New Blood. Alan White (John Hurt) is a British businessman who is the father of a pair of twins. Alan's son Danny (Nick Moran) has fallen into a life of crime, while his daughter is in the hospital, in desperate need of a heart transplant. One day, Danny appears at Alan's doorstep, bleeding severely, with an unusual proposition. Danny will volunteer his heart for his sister's transplant if Alan will participate in a very dangerous con. Danny and his friends are working for a crime boss named Mr. Ryan (Eugene Robert Glazer), who has arranged the kidnapping of Williams (Rob Freeman), a wealthy but reclusive man. Danny and his boys are not told that Williams is under armed guard, and the attempted kidnapping is a disaster, with Williams accidentally killed. Danny is seriously injured and does not expect to survive, but rather than risk the wrath Ryan would inflict on his friends, Danny asks Alan to take Williams' place -- Ryan doesn't know what the man looks like, so while the scam is very dangerous, it could be pulled off. New Blood is the feature debut from writer-director Michael Hurst. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Here, the young Arthur recruits Hercules (Kevin Sorbo), who has likewise been transported to ancient Brittania by Merlin. Unfortunately, also on hand is Arthur's evil advisor, the sorceress Mab (Sara Wiseman), who is not about to relinquish her control over the "one and future king." The title of this episode is a play on Paris Is Burning, a documentary about a drag-queen pageant. Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) joins forces with the flamboyant Widow Twankey (played by "Edith Sidebottom" -- actually series regular Michael Hurst in drag!) to help their friend Althea (Willa O'Neill) stage a fashion show. The villains of the piece are Althea's former boss, Ocea (Jay Saussey), the influential Count von Verminhaven, and "The Fashion Police," who go around arresting people for such horrendous crimes as wearing leather in summertime. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This episode thrusts Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) back into the parallel universe where he and his associates exist in bizarre alter-ego form. Unless Hercules can save the Olympian Gods from this topsy-turvy universe, both the parallel and the "real" world will be destroyed. Ultimately, Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) impersonates his despotic double, the Sovereign, to do battle with the evil alternate version of Nebula (Gina Torres) -- and, hopefully, to redeem the weak-kneed parallel version of his late friend Iolaus (Michael Hurst). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Having crossed over from the parallel universe and into the "real" world, Iolaus II (Michael Hurst) is curious about his late, lamented counterpart, Iolaus. To fill him in, Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) tells Iolaus II a story about a "typical" day in the lives of two superheroes. Thus begins a flashback, predicated upon the theft of a cursed ruby by the light-fingered Autolycus (Bruce Campbell) -- who ends up painfully swallowing the gem. Fans of Hercules: The Legendary Journey's companion series Xena: Warrior Princess will recognize this episode as a variation on the popular Xena installment "A Day in the Life." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
