The frontier of the title is Australia, the locale for this sprawling four-hour TV movie. Linda Evans stars as an American divorcee who marries an Australian cattleman (Tony Bonner). He dies in a plane crash, leaving Evans and her two teenaged stepchildren stranded on a drought- and debt-ridden ranch. She finds herself smack-dab in the middle of a feud between a covetous land baron (Jason Robards) and his idealistic son (Jack Thompson). With problems of her own, Evans refuses to take sides...until she falls in love with the son. Three young explorers find their town - and their lives - transformed after making a chance discovery in an ancient cave. When Peter, Margaret, and Wayne stumbled across one of Pompay's manuscripts in an abandoned boat, they knew they had found something special. Of course it isn't long before word of their discovery spreads, and the sleepy town of Gamma becomes a tacky tourist trap. Upon further analysis of the manuscript, it's revealed that anyone who comes into contact with the boat will fall under a horrible curse - and that the only way to break the curse, is to destroy the boat. Based partly on fact, the Australian miniseries The Fremantle Conspiracy was set in the 1870s. Lloyd Morris starred as John O'Reilly, one of group of Irish outlaws rounded up by the authorities and transported to Australia. Eventually, O'Reilly managed to escape to America, but a strong sense of duty and obligation drew him back down under to rescue his still-imprisoned chums.
