The new girl in town is 16-year-old Jacey Jeffries (Danielle Panabaker), who lives with her divorced mother, Terry (Mercedes Ruehl), and her two siblings. A popular and highly intelligent student, not to mention a talented athlete, Jacey nonetheless seems to be harboring a private, profound sadness -- or at least that's the perception of her high-school guidance counselor, Donna Cooper (Jane Krakowski). Ultimately Donna figures out the truth behind Jacey's melancholia: her baby "brother" Charlie is actually her own son, born out of wedlock and raised by Jacey's overbearing mother in a misguided effort to shield her daughter from disgrace. Upon discovering Jacey's secret, Donna takes a special interest in the girl's welfare -- an interest undoubtedly fueled by the fact that Donna herself is unable to have children. The scenes taking place in the sex-education class have an air of reality often lacking in made-for-TV films, due to the fact that the young actors playing the students were encouraged to improvise their dialogue. Less lurid than its title suggests, this made-for-TV movie was based on the true story of the trials and tribulations of three generations of New Orleans prostitutes. Ellen Burstyn stars as Tommie, matriarch of the "working girl" family which operates out of a brothel in an otherwise quiet, respectable neighborhood. Tommie is the domineering boss of her daughter Jeanette (Annabella Sciorra)), who had followed in mom's footsteps (so to speak) because she had no alternative. Conversely, Jeannette's daughter Monica (Dominique Swain) is showing signs of rebellion, hoping to break free from her grandmother's grasp for the sake of her own daughter Navaeh. The family's internal squabbles are played against a backdrop of federal intrigue, as the FBI works overtime to nail Tommie and her family on charges of racketeering and drug trafficking. But just when it looks like the jig is up thanks to the testimony of a local doctor, Tommie saves herself by threatening to reveal a few unsavory secrets about a few highly placed male individuals. The real-life Jeannette Maier acted as the film's technical advisor, insisting in press releases that she and her mother ran a "clean, tight, business" and that the FBI's charges were so much applesauce (it is clear where the filmmakers' sympathies lie in those scenes wherein the Feds are shown wiretapping the ladies' business when they should be concentrating on capturing the terrorist perpetrators of 9/11). Originally telecast November 9, 2003, by CBS, the made-for-TV Elizabeth Smart: The Long Way Home is divided into two plains of action: the ordeal of the abducted Elizabeth and her uncanny ability to keep her wits and optimism intact despite the ever-growing possibility that she would never see her parents again; and the dogged determination of Elizabeth's parents Ed and Lois, who against all odds, never gave up hope that their daughter was still alive and well. Released shortly after Elizabeth's rescue, the film could have been cheap and exploitive, but was admirably produced and very well acted, especially by Amber Marshall as Elizabeth, Dylan Baker and Hannah Lochner as her parents, and Tom Everett and Hollis McLaren as her captors. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This Yuletide TV movie was based on the novel Flight of the Reindeer, which also served as the film's British release title. As a child, Jerry McNeal (Richard Thomas) was rescued from certain death by a creature he described as a flying reindeer. Now an adult and a professional zoologist, Jerry is determined to prove that reindeers with the power of flight do indeed exist; a mission which, alas, causes him to neglect his wife, Debbie (Maria Pitillo) and daughter, Grace (Taylor-Anne Reid). Ultimately, Jerry's obsession takes him to the North Pole, where a jovial, elfin chap named Nick (Beau Bridges) may or may not be able -- or willing -- to satisfy our hero's insatiable curiosity. In this provocative made-for-television family drama, Marybeth, a college co-ed finds herself forced to make a choice that will forever alter her life when she learns that her recently-deceased grandmother has chosen her to become the legal guardian of her mentally retarded mother. Diedre Hall, popular star of the NBC daytime drama Days of Our Lives, plays herself in this made-for-TV biopic. Although she outwardly appears to "have it all"--beauty, fame, money, adulation--Deidre Hall lives in a state of constant torment because of her inability to conceive a child. "I will do anything in the world to have a family", declares Hall to her husband and, ultimately, the world. The actress' problem (exacerbated by six unsuccessful in-vitro fertilization procedures) not only causes the breakup of her marriage and her decision to forsake her soap-opera stardom at the height of her popularity, but also compels her to investigate the possibility of surrogate parenthood. Then, in 1991, she has a fateful meeting with a young and eminently fertile woman named Robin (Eve Gordon. In addition to the titular star, the film also features guest appearances by Hall's twin sister Andrea Hall-Gengler and several of her Days of Our Lives colleagues.
