Antoine Hubert Movies

In this miniature drama, Antoine (Antoine Hubert) is a fifteen-year old boy who is so bored by school that, due to poor performance, he has been set back a year. His only interest is noodling around on his homemade electric guitar. At school, he meets Olivia (Olivia Munoz) a really distant but lovely girl. It turns out that she is from an aristocratic background, and chances are slim that he will ever actually meet her outside of class. One day he has an accident and breaks both his legs - and falls even further behind in his studies. For some reason, Olivia takes it upon herself to tutor him in literature, and he discovers for the first time the glories of the high culture. The conflict in question is World War II; even though hostilities have all but ceased, the Germans and the French are not precisely reconciled. German soldier Richard Bohlinger, absent without leave, is befriended by a couple of pre-teen boys (Antoine and Julien Hubert, sons of director Jean-Louis Hubert). Despite the fact that they seem to have found a lasting peace, the adult world doesn't see things the boys' way, and Bohlinger is put to death. Apres le Guerre is the second felicitous collaboration between director Hubert and veteran character-actor Richard Bohlinger; the first was the popular Le Grand Chemin. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
