Created by Chris Roache, the Australian drama series Headstart spotlighted seven young adults who endeavored to "make their mark" in the business world by promoting their revolutionary new ideas. They were given this chance by Project Head Start, a program underwritten by Pac Star Banking Corporation. The seven twentysomethings were each given 20,000 dollars as a start-up fee and were moved into a rent-free loft for the duration of their contract. Mentoring the protagonists was reformed financial shark Garret Quinn (Blair Venn), who hoped to repair his shattered reputation by steering the younger characters away from those unscrupulous types (like himself) who would take advantage of their naïveté and hubris. Still trying to make up for past misdeeds, Xena's daughter, Eve (Adrienne Wilkinson), has become a disciple of the messianic, peace-loving shaman Eli. For her troubles, Eve is captured and condemned to death by Amazon ruler Varia (Tsianina Joelson), whose judgment has been clouded by her lust for power. Xena (Lucy Lawless) and Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) must find a way to save Eve before it is too late. The title of this Australian drama series was slightly misleading. There was plenty of family around and about, but friends were scarce. Focusing on a pair of star-crossed lovers trapped in the middle of a long-standing feud between an English and an Italian family, the weekly, hour-long series was primarily designed as a comeback vehicle for Australian singer and soap-opera diva Abigail. Running neck and neck with Neighbors as Australia's most popular TV soap opera, Home and Away debuted January 17, 1988. Set in the resort town of Summer Bay, New South Wales, the series originally concentrated on the lives of the Fletcher family, who had set up a tourist trailer park in the community. Like most other continuing dramas, however, the longer Home and Away remained on the air, the more it focused on younger, more attractive characters than the comparatively middle-aged Fletchers.
