This Dan Curtis made-for-TV effort was the seventh screen version of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. This time, newcomer Shane Bryant plays the debauched 19th-century nobleman who makes an unholy pact permitting him eternal youth and good looks. His multitudinous sins--and his actual age--are reflected in his portrait, which Gray keeps locked up in his attic. Nigel Davenport co-stars as Gray's elegantly corrupt mentor Sir Harry Wotton, while future Lou Grant star Linda Kelsey plays Dorian's unwitting sweetheart Beatrice Hallward, niece of the man who painted the cursed portrait. In this thriller, two lovers begin plotting the murder of the girl's wealthy grandmother so they can collect her inheritance. They decide they will frighten her to death by telling her that the world's young people have decided that all old people should be killed because they are too troublesome to care for. When a youthful protest group marches past her home, the poor grandmother falls dead from fright. Like Socrates of ancient Athens, Michael Rimmer (Peter Cook) of modern England believes the key to success is to ask the right questions. Lots of questions. So he gets a job with an advertising agency that conducts polls, rises swiftly through the ranks, and eventually runs the agency. Then he bombards England with questions. His ingenious system enables him to predict the outcome of a general election. (Every voter in England had received a questionnaire.) So accomplished is Rimmer at asking questions that he finds his future wife through market research. To insure that he gets the right answers, Rimmer is not above manipulating the polls. For example, when he asks residents of Coventry their religion, 95 percent identify themselves as Buddhists, thanks to an influx of Rimmer stooges. Then he enters politics. In a short time, he gets himself elected to Parliament, becomes a cabinet minister and eventually moves into Ten Downing Street as prime minister after pushing the incumbent prime minister off an oil platform. By this time, every eligible voter in Britain can cast ballots with a television remote control. Alas, the electorate tires of the endless referendum questions that they must answer as part of their daily routine. This development serves only to catapult Rimmer to further success, for the people decide to place all decisions in his hands as dictator of England. So Rimmer keeps rising and rising and rising. A quartet of bizarre British blue bloods get their kicks by kidnapping male victims and bringing them to their estate in the country. After one man (Hugh Armstrong) is killed in an in-house chase, a local playboy (Michael Bryant) is blackmailed into coming to the house. The four fiends chase him down, but he manages to have the brother and the nanny kill each other, leaving him to the mercy of the mother and demented daughter. Detective Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond is called on to investigate the activities of his arch enemy Carl Peterson (James Villiers). Carl tries to stop the British from testing a new and improved fighter plane. Drummond travels to Morocco to check into rumors of attempted tampering and espionage by Carl and his henchmen. Comedy relief is provided by Robert Morley as the cooking instructor Miss Mary. Sydne Rome play the delectable double agent whom Drummond is attracted to but whom he also suspects is up to no good. Three sailors on shore leave engage in a series of comedic sexual pursuits in Lock Up Your Daughters!. Jim Dale, Ian Bannen, and Tom Bell hit dry land with one thing on their minds -- something that lands everyone in jail in this comedic romp. Susannah York, Glynis Johns, and Elaine Taylor become the objects of the lovesick sailors' alleged affections. The farcical proceedings are witnessed by Lord Foppington (Christopher Plummer), the aristocratic dandy who shudders in horror over the trouble the three salts cause in their efforts to spice up their love lives. A guilt-ridden plastic surgeon becomes murderously obsessed with restoring the beautiful face of his fashion-model fiancee in this horror film. It was he, in a jealous rage, who accidentally disfigured her, when he burst into a photography session, got into a fight with the cameraman and ended up burning her face with a hot lamp. Now, desperate to restore her, he begins harvesting the pituitary glands and the facial skin (removed with a laser) from the severed heads of prostitutes and using them on her wounded face. It works, but they pay a price and both become increasingly insane because the "beauty treatment" is only temporary. One day, an angry band of hippies storms the doctor's house, for he has killed one of their friends. Using his deadly laser, the doctor tries to defend himself, but the laser goes out of control causing all sorts of death and gory destruction. Fortunately, things are not as they seem, and at that point the surgeon awakens from his nightmare and prepares to take his beautiful fiancee to a party. Jamie McGregor (Barry Evans) is in his last year of high school and hoping to lose his status as a virgin, in this romantic comedy romp. He holds hands with his date at a church dance, but things go no farther. He tries to make time with a gangly girl who has a face that could stop a clock. The more poor Jamie tries, the more he is convinced he will die a virgin. His luck seems to change when he spends a weekend with the prettiest girl in school, but there is more arguing than amore. The best thing about the film is the soundtrack provided by The Spencer Davis Group, Steve Winwood, Dave Mason and Traffic (which included Windwood and Mason). Set during the Victorian era, the film stars Peter Cushing as a Holmeslike detective on the trail of a serial killer. The mystery angle is minimal, since we know virtually from the beginning that the killer is a gigantic....moth! It seems that Wanda Ventham, daughter of addled scientist Robert Flemyng, has spent too much time in her dad's lab, and can turn herself into a malevolent moth at will. Flemyng tries to mollify Ventham by creating a playmate for her-and the result is two murderous moths.
