It's still the same old story...but what a story. This umpteenth filmization of the classic Mark Twain novel stars Ron Howard as Huck and Donny Most as Tom Sawyer. After faking his own murder to escape his brutish Pap (played by Howard's real-life father Rance), Huck and fugitive slave Jim (Antonio Fargas) fashion a raft and head off down the Mississippi. The darker elements and sociological commentary of the Twain original are carefully excised from this version, the better to allow more time for the antics of those "royal" rapscallions, the King (Jack Elam) and the Duke (Merle Haggard). Mark Twain himself makes a guest appearance, in the person of Royal Dano. Filmed along the Sacramento River in California (a frequent movie "stand-in" for the Mississippi), Huckleberry Finn was first broadcast March 25, 1975. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
In the conclusion of a two-part story arc, Cousin Roy (Roy Clark) is still in Beverly Hills, still trying to break into show business. Alas, "top Hollywood agent" Jethro Bodine refuses to take Roy on as a client. But when the rent comes due on his lavish $5,000-a-month office, Jethro, with nary a client to his name, suddenly changes his mind about his country cousin -- who can, after all, sing a little. Guest star Roy Clark performs "Orange Blossom Special," "Under the Double Eagle," and "The Great Pretender." "Cousin Roy in Movieland" originally aired on January 29, 1969. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Renting an office in Mr. Drysdale's bank building, Jethro goes into business as a big-time Hollywood talent agent, aka "Cecil B. DeBodine." His first client is Cousin Roy (played by country and western star Roy Clark), who has arrived in L.A. seeking stardom. Alas, poor Roy doesn't quite come up to Jethro's standards -- or to be more succinct, Roy isn't a beautiful young girl. Future Laugh-In regular Pamela Rodgers appears as Bunny, while Judy Jordan is cast as Jethro's sexy chauffeur. The first episode in a two-part story arc, "Jethro the Flesh Peddler" was originally telecast on January 22, 1969. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Country and western singer Roy Clark makes his TV acting debut in the role of the Clampetts' hometown cousin Roy Halsey (an inside joke: Jim Halsey was Clark's real-life manager). Arriving in Beverly Hills, Roy immediately goes to work promoting the medicinal potions cooked up by his mother. Naturally, "Doctor" Granny doesn't cotton to the competition. As a bonus, Roy Clark also appears in drag as his mother Myrtle. "Cousin Roy" originally aired on April 3, 1968, as the final episode in The Beverly Hillbillies, sixth season. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
