When a diverse group of lifelong friends comes together to celebrate the marriage of devoted couple Elise (Amy Adams) and Michael (Adam Garcia), the mixed-up relationships of the past pave the road to a weekend no one is likely to soon forget in the feature debut from filmmaker Matthew Cole Weiss. The setting is Los Angeles, CA, and the event is the wedding between a man and a woman who always seemed destined to be together. American independent filmmaker Gary Preisler makes his film debut as a writer/director with the black comedy National Lampoon's Gold Diggers. Twentysomethings Calvin Menhoffer (Will Friedle) and Leonard Smallwood (Chris Owen) get arrested for the robbery of two sixtysomething women, Doris (Louise Lasser) and Betty (Renee Taylor). The ladies decide to drop the charges and invite the crooks to their space-age mod Beverly Hills mansion. Cal and Lenny come up with a plan to marry the women for their money in hopes that they die within the year. It turns out that Doris and Betty are actually broke and they're planning to marry the boys, kill them, and cash in on their insurance money. After several unsuccessful murder attempts, all four characters end up robbing Doris and Betty's rich uncle. Originally titled Lady Killers but changed to avoid confusion with the Coen brothers' remake of the classic 1955 film, Gold Diggers was shown at the 2003 CineVegas Film Festival. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

Jesse Dylan's American Wedding rounds up the characters from the American Pie films for a trip to the altar. Jim (Jason Biggs) proposes to Michelle (Alyson Hannigan). Hoping to make the wedding day as special as possible for his bride, Jim enlists the help of his friends Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), and the always obnoxious Stifler (Seann William Scott) to help him convince a dressmaker to create the perfect gown, make a good impression on his future in-laws, and assist him in getting out of the embarrassing situations in which he so often seems to find himself. Stifler and Finch battle for the attention of Michelle's younger sister Cadence (January Jones), Jim's Grandmother objects to the wedding because Michelle is not Jewish, and Stiffler's poorly timed surprise bachelor party are just some of the obstacles that must be overcome before the happy event can transpire. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

The weekly Babylon 5 series still had three episodes to go when TNT presented the two-hour "spinoff" movie Babylon 5: The River of Souls. Departing a bit from the established fifth-season chronology, the film finds Garibaldi returning to B5 after an 18-month tenure as CEO of Edgars Enterprise. The purpose of Garibaldi's arrival is a conference with archeologist Dr. Robert Bryson (Ian McShane), who claims to be on the verge of discovering the secret of eternal life. Alas, the immortality-granting alien artifact discovered by Bryson actually belongs to the Soul Hunters, who will stop at nothing to retrieve the sacred relic. In a lighter but no less significant development, the owners of a virtual-reality brothel bring legal action against Zack. Martin Sheen costars as the chief Soul Hunter. Written by J.
