Hollywood's Australian import Kate Beahan first established herself by essaying two back-to-back A-list roles as a seemingly innocent young woman with satanically evil hidden agendas. She played the stewardess kidnapper Stephanie (Peter Sarsgaard's accomplice) in German helmer Robert Schwentke's thriller Flightplan (2005), and followed it up with the role of the former girlfriend, Willow, who uses the story of a "missing child" to lure Nicolas Cage's Edward Malus straight into a funeral pyre, in Neil LaBute's disappointing horror remake, The Wicker Man (2006).Born in the late 1970s in Perth, Australia, Beahan landed her first major cinematic role on her native soil, as Tanya the brothel keeper, in Chopper (2000), Andrew Dominik's biopic about the notorious, psychotically violent Aussie criminal Mark "Chopper" Read. When Beahan transitioned to Hollywood shortly thereafter -- using the Chopper role as her ticket to representation -- casting agents typed her as an "exotic," and thus frequently asked her to audition in competition with such actresses as Eva Mendes, perhaps because they were unsure how to "pigeonhole" her. Beahan landed her first bit part in an A-lister as The Coat Check Girl in 2003's The Matrix Revolutions, and appeared alongside Jodie Foster, Sean Bean, and Peter Sarsgaard in Flightplan. The role of Willow in The Wicker Man followed, as did an appearance in Asif Kapadia's supernatural thriller The Return, with Sarah Michelle Gellar as a Midwestern girl plagued by otherworldly visions. A woman is forced to prove her own sanity to save the life of her daughter in this taut thriller. Kyle Pratt (Jodie Foster) is a successful aircraft designer who has recently been dealing with the traumatic death of her husband. After traveling to Berlin on business with her six-year-old daughter, Julia (Marlene Lawston), Kyle falls asleep on their flight back to New York, only to discover that her daughter has gone missing. While not knowing where Julia has gone is troubling enough, even more disturbing is the insistence by sky marshal Gene Carson (Peter Sarsgaard) and Captain Rich (Sean Bean) that no records indicate that the child ever boarded the jet. As Kyle becomes increasingly desperate to find her daughter, she must prove to the men in charge that her daughter did in fact board the plane with her, and that this turn of events is not a product of her imagination. But if Julia has gone missing, who has taken her and why? A young couple desperate to conceive enters into a slow-burn battle of wills with the surrogate mother who agreed to help them, and the man who has subsequently fallen in love with her, in director Abe Levy's intimate family drama. When a childless thirtysomething couple discovers that they are unable to birth a child, they enlist the aid of a willing young woman in bringing their baby to term. Crikey! Following a brief cameo in Dr. Dolittle 2 (2001), hyperactive, high-energy cable television star and native Australian naturalist Steve Irwin parlays his success as a confronter of all things scaly, fanged, and venomous into this feature-film adventure. Irwin and his wife Terri Irwin play themselves as animal activists who rescue an endangered crocodile, not realizing that the critter has swallowed a downed top-secret satellite beacon that's the subject of an intense search by CIA personnel. Believing that the spies are poachers out to steal the animal's precious hide, the Irwins evade their pursuers while attempting to get the crocodile to safety in a remote area of the Outback, adopting an orphaned joey (a baby kangaroo), and grappling with bird-eating spiders and poisonous snakes along the way. In the meantime, the secret agents mistakenly believe the Irwins are enemy operatives trying to steal their highly valuable technology. Shot back-to-back with The Matrix Reloaded, the third and final installment of Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski's sci-fi action saga picks up where the second film left off. Neo (Keanu Reeves) remains unconscious in the real world, caught in a mysterious subway station that lies between the machine world and the Matrix, and Bane (Ian Bliss) is still a conduit for Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), who continues to grow out of control, threatening to destroy both worlds. Meanwhile, as the sentinels get closer and closer to Zion, the citizens of the earth's last inhabited city prepare for the inevitable onslaught. By bargaining with The Merovingian (Lambert Wilson), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) are able to free Neo who, after meeting with The Oracle (Mary Alice stepping in for the late Gloria Foster), decides that he must leave Zion and head for the machine mainframe. As Neo and Trinity venture into the dangerous machine world, with hopes of stopping both the machines and Agent Smith, their comrades in Zion attempt to fight off the attacking sentinels with the odds stacked greatly against them. A self-assured Midwestern girl finds her confidence gradually crumbling as a barrage of terrifying visions prompt her to investigate a brutal murder in a supernatural thriller directed by Asif Kapadia and starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. When Joanna has a psychic experience in which she literally sees and feels the brutal murder of a female stranger, she soon begins to suspect that she has been targeted as the killer's next victim. A young child has gone missing and it's up to a haunted but determined policeman to travel to the remote island community where she was last seen and solve the lingering mystery of her disappearance in director Neil LaBute's updated reworking of Anthony Shaffer's 1973 cult horror classic. Upon receiving a letter from his one-time fiancée, Willow (Kate Beahan), imploring him to search for her missing daughter on the secluded island of Summersisle, Policeman Edward Malus (Nicolas Cage) quickly makes his way to the island to locate the girl and seek an answer as to why Willow suddenly and inexplicably disappeared shortly before their wedding date. Once there, Malus is troubled to discover that although there are traces of the child to be found in such locations as the local schoolhouse, the residents of Summersisle seem reluctant to offer any specific details as to the girl's apparent death. His investigation effectively stalled by the highly secretive Wiccan community, Sheriff Malus soon discovers that there are still some cultures that have their own unique beliefs about humankind's relationship with Mother Earth, and refuse to adapt to the rules of modern society. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
