Things get personal for the CSI's Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan) when he heads to his old neighborhood to investigate a particularly tragic drive-by shooting. The victim, who was sleeping in her own bedroom, was the nine-year-old daughter of Warrick's old friend and mentor, Matt Phelps (Keith David). When the grieving Warrick presses a little too hard in putting the heat on the primary suspect, Grissom (William L. Petersen) is forced to take him off the case. Elsewhere, Nick (George Eads) investigates the murder of the much-despised CEO of a dot com, whose skull was crushed at his job site. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The press box at a small high-school football field yields the strangled body of Nebraska woman Alison Carpenter. The CSI's investigation reveals that Alison died an hour before her corpse was found, and that she may have perished during a session of rough consensual sex. Among the suspects are meth addict Jason Kent (Max Martini) and a pair of ex-convicts (Luis Antonio Ramos and Raymond Cruz) who were in the same street gang. During the annual convention of the International Organization of Little People, dwarf Lawrence Ames apparently hangs himself in his casino hotel room. Despite initial evidence pointing to suicide, Grissom (William L. Petersen) suspects foul play. During the magic act of an illusionist known only as Zephyr (Tom Noonan), a young woman volunteer from the audience disappears in the magician's on-stage cabinet. Unfortunately, the disappearance is permanent, and traces of blood inside the cabinet lead Grissom (William L. Petersen) to suspect that the woman has been killed. The trail of clues leads to a mysterious and spooky mansion, owned by the family of the missing woman. Eric Christian Olsen and Jeremy Sumpter star as brothers Randy and Skeet Dobson in this coming-of-age surfer movie from director Ron Moler. With their widowed mother working to provide for the family, Randy is left to look after 12-year-old Skeet. Despite the fact that a kid brother is a bit of a style-cramper, Randy lets Skeet tag along with him to the beach where he and his friends surf the summer days away. But trouble begins to brew when a pretty girl named Samantha (Shelby Fenner) chooses Randy over the leader of a rough-and-tumble surfer gang. Meanwhile, all is not well at home either when Skeet befriends Jim Wesley (Mark Harmon), a legendary surfer who begins a romantic relationship with the boys' mother, Jessica (Stacy Edwards), much to Randy's chagrin. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

Paul Millander (Matt O'Toole), the serial killer who taunted the squad throughout the first season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, is back in business. Claiming a third victim, Millander repeats his previous M.O., leaving behind a tape suggesting that the victim committed suicide. But Grissom (William L. Petersen) not only concludes that no suicide has occurred, but also ascertains that the victim's birth date was August 17, the same day in 1959 that Millander's own father was killed -- and, more chillingly, the same day in 1956 that Grissom himself was born. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In their efforts to determine if the death was from natural causes or murder, Grissom (William L. Petersen) and Nick (George Eads) receive unexpected assistance from the woman's autistic co-worker. Former X-Files writer James Wong makes his sophomore feature as a director at the helm of this science fiction thriller that's reminiscent of Timecop (1994). In the near future, a technology called "quantum tunneling" allows human beings to travel between parallel universes. The abuse of this ability by criminal elements has led to the formation of the Multi-Verse Authorities or "MVA," an agency of quantum traveling cops who apprehend violators of inter-dimensional laws. The MVA faces its greatest crisis when a former agent named Gabriel Yulaw (Jet Li) goes renegade, traveling between one universe and the next, murdering his own parallel selves and gaining enormous power with each slaying. It is believed that when Yulaw has become "the one," the only version of himself to exist, he will be omnipotent, but the final Gabriel Yulaw exists in our plane of existence (the "magna universe") and is also becoming stronger, though he doesn't understand why. Hot on the evil Yulaw's trail are his former partner Harry Roedecker (Delroy Lindo) and Harry's new colleague Evan Funsch (Jason Statham).
