Adam Rodriguez Movies
Latino actor and heartthrob
Adam Rodriguez found a convenient backdoor to Hollywood success. Proving definitively the old adage that "it's all in who you know,"
Rodriguez's dad, the longtime COO of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, happened to be watching the Emmys in 1996 and recognized an old army buddy accepting a production award. The gentleman in question had graduated from policeman to
NYPD Blue consultant to one of the program's producers. The elder
Rodriguez impulsively phoned his pal to congratulate him on the award; this led to a renewed friendship, and in time, a small guest spot for
Adam on
NYPD Blue. At that point,
Rodriguez had only just decided on his true calling in life. A stint of seemingly random occupations (including stockbroker and bellhop) followed by a brief theatrical tenure at the Jersey Peppermill Playhouse convinced the young man that his passion lay in acting. The Emmy incident, as it were, happened almost immediately afterward.
A recurring role on the brief series drama
Brooklyn South ensued, followed by a guest spot on
Law & Order, then a bit part in the
Gary Fleder movie
Impostor.
Rodriguez attained his first substantial recognition, however, as Jesse Ramirez, an erudite attorney unknowingly saddled with an extraterrestrial girlfriend, on the sci-fi series
Roswell. But his greatest exposure was still yet to come. Beginning in 2002, he played Eric Delko, drug and fingerprint expert at the Miami-Dade crime laboratory, on
CSI: Miami, the first successful spin-off to the crime series phenomenon
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Shortly thereafter,
Rodriguez also signed for a part in
Jessica Kavana Dornbusch's indie coming-of-age drama
Thanks to Gravity (2005), about the trials and travails of a young woman of Jewish-Hispanic ancestry enrolled at Harvard. Numerous film roles followed, and on the heels of an appearance in Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself Rodriguez turned up in Ugly Betty as Hilda's on again-off again flame Bobby Talercio. In 2012 the chisled actor could be seen opposite Channing Tatum in Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

A series of devastating storms are leveling major cities across the globe, and it's up to discredited scientist Faith Clavell (Shannon Doherty), dedicated storm chaser Tommy Tornado (Randy Quaid), and the FEMA head Judith Carr (Gina Gerson) to journey into the eye of the storm and find out just why mother nature has turned so violently on mankind in the shocking sequel to 2004's weather-gone-wild thriller Category 6: Day of Destruction. An unprecedented Category Six storm has leveled the Eiffel Tower and reduced the Great Pyramids to rubble, and as the pitch black funnel clouds lay waste to anything and everything in their path, three dedicated heroes attempt to discover whether the malevolent weather is the cause of global warming, or something far more sinister. When a vengeful gang of terrorists threaten to use the storms to their advantage by staging a large scale attack the likes of which the world has never seen, it seems as if it very well may be the end of the world. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The opening episode of CSI: Miami's third season represents the final series appearance of Rory Cochrane as Tim Speedle, streetwise member of the Florida-based CSI unit headed by the mercurial Horatio Caine (David Caruso). Speedle is killed during the investigation of a combination kidnapping and jewel theft, though it would not be until the following episode that the viewers would know which of the team members lost his (or her) life. Fortunately, the remainder of the unit -- including detectives Yelina Salas (Sofia Milos), Calleigh Duquesne (Elizabeth Procter), and Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez) -- are alive and well, still solving crimes by combing through the most microscopic of forensic evidence. Also on hand in an increasingly recurring role is Rex Linn as Detective Frank Tripp, while Jonathan Togo as Ryan Wolfe makes the transition from recurring to regular. This season, the unit's cases include a murderer who acts as his own lawyer (and is damn good at it!), an e-mail "flash message" that leads to a death on a golf course, a baseball player accused of murder whose defense team members may be accessories after the fact, a gang-related killing that is sparked by the proverbial woman scorned, a search for a counterfeiting ring that is complicated by a sudden and enormous influx of tourists, and a fire in the Everglades which might or might not have been set as a literal smokescreen for a serial killer. ~ Rovi

Although Horatio Caine (David Caruso) is still in charge of a super-efficient team of forensic criminologists during season two of CSI: Miami, one of those team members, former CSI head Megan Donner, is conspicuous by her absence -- as indeed she had been since halfway through season one. According to the plotline, Megan had quit the unit because she could not shake her memories of her husband's violent death. According to Hollywood rumor, however, the actress who played Megan, Kim Delaney, was unable to establish a rapport with series star David Caruso. Whatever the case, the unit has a new member this year, Detective Yelina Salas (Sofia Milos). Also added to the cast is the CSI's new DNA tech, Valera (Boti Ann Bliss). Throughout the season, the taciturn Caine will be drawn emotionally to Salas. This however, does not compromise either team member's ability to solve crimes by piecing together the tiniest bits of forensic evidence. CSI's assignments this year include the investigation of a model's death by deliberate vehicular homicide; the probe of a murder by spear gun; a closer examination of the death of a man who was supposedly killed in a hurricane (he wasn't); and Caine's ongoing campaign to locate the murderer of his brother. One of the final episodes of season two, "MIA/NYC -- NonStop," represents a crossover between CSI: Miami and its sister series, CSI: NY, allowing David Caruso to compare notes with his CSI: NY counterpart, Gary Sinise. ~ Rovi

Mercurial ex-homicide cop Horatio Caine (David Caruso) heads a crack group of Florida-based forensic criminologists in season one of CSI: Miami. Adding to Horatio's mood swings is the return to the CSI unit of Megan Donner (Kim Delaney), former head of the unit, who has a habit of challenging every move that her successor makes (Megan would exit the series after ten episodes, claiming that working around dead people made it difficult to overcome the demise of her husband). Caine gets along better (but not much) with the other members of the team: ballistics expert Calleigh Duquesne (Emily Procter), streetwise Tim Speedle (Rory Cochrane), and underwater-recovery specialist Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez). Then there's coroner Alexx Woods (Khandi Alexander), who makes no secret of the fact that she considers every member of the CSI -- and probably everybody else in Miami -- her intellectual inferior. The team's first assignment finds them trying to figure out why the body of a presumed victim of a plane crash in the Everglades showed up five miles from the crash site. In later episodes, Caine leads an investigation of an alleged serial bomber; the team ponders a possible connection between a wealthy family and a burned, befouled corpse (thereby opening up a very old wound for the sensitive Caine); three CSIers look for motives in the death of a male exotic dancer; Caine and Speedle seek out the reason that the naked body of a murdered hooker was meticulously cleaned with cardmom soap; and in an Emmy-winning episode, a case against the husband of a prominent politician leads to a desperate search for a thrill killer. ~ Rovi

It all begins when Las Vegas' former chief of detectives is killed execution-style after a party at his home. In addition, the dead man's young new wife and their seven-year-old daughter are missing. Ultimately the girl is spotted near Miami, obliging the Vegas CSI team to work hand in glove with Horatio Caine and his colleagues. Other soon-to-be regulars of CSI: Miami introduced herein are Emily Procter as Calleigh Duqesne, Adam Rodriguez as Eric Delko, Khandi Alexander as Alexx Woods, and Rory Cochrane as Tim Speedle. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This long-delayed science fiction thriller from director Gary Fleder was actually filmed prior to his box-office hit Don't Say a Word (2001), which preceded it in theaters by several months. Based on a 1953 short story by Philip K. Dick, the film shares that schizophrenic author's long-running obsessions with concealed identity and humanity's potential inferiority to alternative life forms. Gary Sinise stars as Spencer John Olham, a respected government scientist in the year 2079 trying to devise a secret weapon that will help his fellow humans win a decade-long war with invading aliens that are cloning human subjects and using the replicas as walking time bombs. Suddenly, Olham is accused of being an alien spy and a nationwide manhunt to capture him ensues. With even his doctor wife (Madeleine Stowe) unsure that she can trust him, Olham must uncover the truth on his own, even as he's relentlessly pursued by Hathaway (Vincent D'Onofrio), a federal agent charged with destroying the clones. Imposter has a complicated history, originally produced in early 2000 as a 30-minute short to be included in an anthology entitled "The Light Years Trilogy," a project that never got off the ground. So impressed was Dimension Films with the completed piece, however, that the footage was incorporated into a new feature version. That film was then shuffled around the release schedule for more than a year as effects were completed, reshoots were ordered, and the film was recut for a PG-13 rating instead of its original R. The R-rated "director's cut" was later released on DVD. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi
