Evil goddess Glory (Clare Kramer) finally knows that The Key she needs to unleash hell on earth has been incarnated as the Slayer's very own sister. Thus, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her gang are forced to flee Sunnydale in a desperate attempt to save Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) -- and the world -- from the apocalypse. Unfortunately, their unlikely escape vehicle -- a Winnebago -- proves vulnerable to attack by the Knights of Byzantium, ancient warriors who have sworn to destroy The Key before Glory can use it. Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) suffers grievous wounds, forcing the gang to take refuge in an abandoned gas station. Resident Wiccan Willow (Alyson Hannigan) erects a mystical barrier, but, thanks to the relentless knights, a stalemate ensues. The misguided but honorable Byzantine leader allows Buffy to send for medical assistance. She calls Ben (Charlie Weber), the handsome young doctor she's been flirting with for several episodes. Unbeknownst to the Scoobies, Ben is the unwilling human host for Glory's earthly manifestation. Once inside the barrier, Ben patches Giles up but then loses his constant battle with Glory for control of their shared body. The triumphant hell-goddess makes off with Dawn and slaughters the Knights of Byzantium, leaving Buffy a catatonic shell of her normal self. Originally broadcast May 8, 2001, on the WB network, "Spiral" marked episode 98 of the cult-favorite series. ~ Brian J. Dillard, All Movie Guide
Another made-for-cable horror story from the "Creature Features" series of in-name-only remakes of classic American International Pictures scare flicks, How to Make a Monster concerns a new video game, "Evil-ution," which is being designed by a top virtual reality firm headed by Faye Clayton (Colleen Camp). Clayton is determined "Evil-ution" will be the most terrifying video game ever, and so far her programmers are right on track, except for one thing -- the bad-guy character in the game looks simply ridiculous. Drummond (Steven Culp) is ordered to come up with a better monster for the game, so he adds Laura Wheeler (Clea Duvall), a promising new programmer, to the staff to work alongside veteran designers Bug (Jason Marsden), Hardcore (Tyler Mane), and Sol (Karim Prince). The foursome are given a special incentive program: whoever thinks up the right scary monster for the game will get a bonus of one million dollars. However, a power surge during a powerful lightning storm has an unexpected effect on the group's work and a motion-capture suit that was hooked into the computer network suddenly comes to life, becoming the dangerous and bloodthirsty monster the designers were trying to conjure. How to Make a Monster also features notorious scream queen Julie Strain in a cameo as herself. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Shawn (Rider Strong) and Angela (Trina McGee-Davis) are so fed up by the efforts of Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) to bring them back together that they issue their own version of a restraining order. Even so, the two ex-sweethearts cannot help running into one another no matter how hard they try. Meanwhile, with Amy (Betsy Randle) expecting a baby, Alan (William Russ) tries to make himself feel young enough for parenthood by making an unsual purchase, while Eric (Will Friedle) appoints himself the family's birthing coach (a job that requires more talk than action, apparently!) ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
In a follow-up to the previous episode, "Don't Kill the Messenger," Bobby Simone (Jimmy Smits) and Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) continue to be frustrated in their efforts to pin a nurse's murder on misogynistic cop Tommy Richardson (Michael Wiseman). Elsewhere, a graduate student who is shot during the theft of his camera wants to exact his own brand of justice. On a more personal level, Medavoy (Gordon Clapp) rushes to Abby's (Paige Turco) side when she shows signs of going into labor. "Upstairs," John Irvin (Bill Brochtrup) starts a printing business, and Sylvia (Sharon Lawrence) tries to persuade Andy to undergo prostate surgery. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
