Shooting Star is an unusual kidnap drama. Horse racing is the only pleasure remaining in the life of old Kikujiro, who is past 70 and living on his pension. Chance brings him in contact with Hitomi, a young woman. Trying to procure money for her, he embarks on the final and greatest gamble of his life. His plan is to steal Shooting Star, a famous local racing horse and put him in a major race. But Kawasaki, the lowliest ruffian, is also in town and looking for a break. The three join forces for the gamble of their lives. Ken Ogata, who appeared in Peter Greenaway's Pillow Book, is the star of this film that should appeal to old and young alike.
