Gregg Henry Movies

A character actor with a reputation for playing heavies and high rollers, Gregg Henry got his start on screen in the late '70s. He landed small roles in projects like the TV movies Hot Rod and Dummy, before adding some big-screen parts to his résumé. Perhaps Henry's most memorable movie role of his early career was the sly Sam Bouchard in the de Palma thriller Body Double. He would continue to find a home with TV, however, making notable appearances on shows like Magnum, P.I., and Jake and the Fatman, and playing recurring roles over the coming years on Matlock, L.A. Law, Murder, She Wrote, Gilmore Girls, The Riches, and 24. Henry would also continue to take on occasional movie roles, including in 2006's The Black Dahlia and 2011's Super. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi

The three dysfunctional sons of a drunken womanizer receive an unexpected surprise when they gather together for the reading of their late father's will in this adventure crime drama starring John Cena and Ethan Embry. Sam (Cena) and Leo Cleary (Embry) have the same despicable father but come from two different mothers. Growing up, they couldn't stand the sight of each other. These days, the only thing Sam and Leo can agree on is their mutual distain for their younger brother, Douglas (Boyd Holbrook), who comes from yet another mother and can't seem to stay out of trouble. Though they've only just met Douglas, it's apparent from the beginning that their little sibling means trouble. When their wealthy father passes away, their sister, Nina (Amy Smart), calls the three brothers together to find out how the old man's fortune will be divvied up. Now, in order to get their inheritance, the siblings who hate each other's guts must team up to track down the parole violator who has left bail bondsman Leo treading water in a sea of debt. Later, in one of the most secluded regions of Mexico, Sam, Leo, and Douglas cross the path of a dangerous drug lord and incur the wrath of a murderous businessman (Michael Rispoli) who will stop at nothing in his quest for power. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This typically iconoclastic FX network comedy-drama series was dedicated to the proposition of "Stealing the American Dream." The Malloys were a family of "travellers," roving con artists who lived perpetually on the fringes of society and just outside the reach of the law. After years of running scams and fleecing the unsuspecting, Wayne Malloy (Eddie Izzard) began to wonder if it was all worth the effort. At the same time, Wayne's drug-addict wife Dahlia (Minnie Driver) had been released from prison after a two-year stretch, and was raring to go back on the road with her husband and her equally disreputable children Sam (Aidan Mitchell), Cael (Noel Fisher) and Dehliah (Shannon Marie Woodward). While barreling through the Southland in their RV, the Malloys were involved in a traffic accident (not their fault, for a change!) in which the other drivers, a married couple, were killed. Rifling through the dead motorists' belongings, Wayne and Dahlia discovered that the victims were Doug and Cherein Rich, an upper-middle-class couple who'd just purchase a mansion in a gated community somewhere in Louisiana. Thus handed an opportunity to start life anew, the Malloys "became" the Riches and moved into that selfsame mansion, using their conning-and-hustling skills to convince their new neighbors that they were whom they claimed to be. Carrying the charade to the ultimate, Wayne, alias Mr. Rich, sweettalked his way into a job with family lawyer Hugh Panetta (Gregg Henry), while Dahlia found work as a dental hygienist and the kids tried to fit in at the local high school. Of course, there was always the possibility (or rather the likelihood) that the Malloys would revert to their old dishonest ways, especially whenever the former crooked associates would breeze into town. Forever playing fast and loose with manners, morals and audience expectations, the weekly, 60-minute The Riches made its cable-TV bow on March 12, 2007. Hal Erickson

Seven years after seeing his original vision butchered under studio interference as well as his star's, director Brian Helgeland finally was given the chance to piece together his director's cut under the name Payback: Straight Up. Along with reinstating the original third act, this version represents a return to the gritty world of '70s filmmaking that was the groundwork of the production up until Paramount got cold feet and ordered extensive reshoots. The story centers on Porter (Mel Gibson), a thief that is pulled into a heist by his old friend, Val (Brian De Palma regular Gregg Henry), who plans a double cross with Porter's wife, Lynn (Deborah Kara Unger) after showing her a photo of her husband in the arms of another girl (Maria Bello). As they're stealing $130,000 in laundered drug money from Chinese Triads, Lynn shoots Porter in the back and speeds away with Val and money in tow. What they didn't know is that Porter would come back looking for his cut, which has been used to pay off Val's mob debts so he could return to "The Syndicate." Helgeland, the screenwriter for L.A. Confidential and Mystic River, made his directing debut with this adaptation of the novel The Hunter by Donald E. Westlake writing under the pseudonym, Richard Stark. The same novel served as the basis for John Boorman's Point Blank starring Lee Marvin. This version excises Kris Kristofferson's performance entirely and features a new score by Scott Stambler. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

Bloody Sunday director Paul Greengrass marks the five-year anniversary on the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States with this speculative meditation on the events that took place onboard the fourth hijacked plane, and the actions of the passengers who gave their lives to ensure the safety of others. Told in real time and acted out by a cast of unknowns who were provided with detailed studies of their real-life counterparts, United 93 attempts to reconstruct the airborne tragedy from the view of the ground and flight controllers, the passengers, and their nervous families awaiting word on the fate of their loved ones. As the terrified travelers and crew gradually become aware of the historical events taking place on the ground so far beneath them, the 90 minutes in which a random collection of strangers realized their fate and came together to confront an unthinkable threat are re-created. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Director Brian De Palma returns to the helm for the first time since 2002's Femme Fatale with this stylish screen adaptation of James Ellroy's novel detailing one of the most notorious unsolved murders in Hollywood history. Elizabeth Short (Mia Kirshner) was a struggling actress looking to make a name for herself in 1940s-era Tinseltown. Unfortunately for Elizabeth, it was her grim fate that would ultimately overshadow anything she would accomplish during her short and tragic career. Actor Greg Henry stars as the elusive serial killer who terrorized Kansas residents for seventeen agonizing years while taunting the authorities and claiming the lives of ten random and unsuspecting victims. Inspired to revisit the case on the anniversary of the killer's emergence, the media inadvertently prompts a serial killer who had once gone into self-induced retirement to begin prowling the streets of Wichita in search of potential victims. Detective Jason Magida (Robert Forester) is a cop who remembers all too well the terror that the BTK killer inflicted on the community as he launched a gruesome campaign to bond, torture, and kill his helpless "projects" after staking them like an animalistic predator, but that was back in the mid-1970s. Is it really possible for a serial killer to suppress their murderous instincts long enough to evade capture, only to lash out once again decades later? When a killer who seems to share the same modus operandi as the original BTK killer begins claiming victims and the citizens of Wichita once again begin locking their doors at night, Detective Magida and his partner (Michael Michele) set out to put an end to the killings, and the rampant fear that has gripped the quiet Kansas town, once and for all. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
