Operation Cobra went into Norwegian theatres as Operasjon Cobra. Aimed principally at children, the film tells of a group of three schoolkids who head for the Oslo airport to witness the arrival of a Kissinger-like American diplomat. Here they become mixed up in a PLO plot to kill the American visitor. Though the children are clearly the heroes, it is interesting to note that the assassins are not drawn as villains--merely fervent nationals doing what they believe is right. Operation Cobra is based on a novel by Anders Bodelsen. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Canadian "sleeper" The Silent Partner stars Elliott Gould as a teller, Miles Cullen, who figures out psycho Harry Reikle's (Christopher Plummer) scheme to rob his bank, several days ahead of time. Cullen providently squirrels away 50,000 dollars in a safety-deposit box before Reikle strikes. After the robbery, the papers report the amount of the bank's loss. Reikle realizes that there's 50,000 extra bucks floating around that he hasn't gotten his hands on. The soft-spoken but sadistic Reikle puts the screws on Cullen to fork over the dough -- but Cullen has lost the deposit-box key. Be forewarned: this one gets extremely brutal and bloody at times, with sudden bursts of graphic violence. Also featured is Susannah York as the fluctuating-loyalty heroine, and a very young and hairy John Candy. Future L.A. Confidential scribe Curtis Hanson loosely adapted the Danish novel Think of a Number, by Anders Bodelsen. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

When he hears that the Danish people have passed a referendum permitting the development of nuclear power plants, the swimming instructor for disabled children is shocked. He has long been an opponent of nuclear power, and this latest announcement is the last straw. An expert rifle shot, he makes a series of tape recordings and sends them to a journalist, warning that he will begin an escalating series of crimes and murders unless and until nuclear power development is stopped. At first, he only shoots the Punch and Judy puppets in the park, but "The Marksman" (Jens Okking) cannot stop there. Meanwhile, the journalist is put into a difficult situation by the tapes, which force him into journalistic and social dilemmas. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

The young girl who witnessed the auto plant manager's hit-and-run accident doesn't quite blackmail him into giving her a good job, and she also doesn't quite blackmail him into spending time with her and her young friends. Her threat is implied, rather than explicit, and what she wants isn't made entirely clear. The manager doesn't want to break up his marriage or make the young woman his mistress, which might be her objective, and he can't promote her any further in the company. If she talks, his life is ruined. What can he do? When the Japanese owners of his factory ask him to come with an assistant to Japan to test-drive a new car, he has an opportunity to find out. This Danish-made English-language thriller doesn't end quite the way one might expect it to. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
