This drama concerns two lovers who clearly do not get along, though not everything else is quite that clear. Olivia (Frederique Hender) is a stripper in a downbeat nightclub and Dutch (Philippe Leotard) is her lover. When Dutch is not drinking himself into oblivion in-between Olivia's strip routines, the couple endlessly scream at each other. After this jarring introduction, the film segues to a garbage dump that is the home of Olivia's presumed parents. Eric Rohmer ends his cycle of "Six Moral Tales" with this delightful film starring Bernard Verley as Frederic, a happily married man who discovers that he can't stop looking at beautiful women. As he says in a voiceover, "I feel marriage closes me in, cloisters me, and I want to escape." His escape comes to him in the form of Chloe (Zouzou), a woman from his past. Chloe had left for America as a successful model but has now returned to Paris, bored with her life and saddled with a man she doesn't love. Although Frederic is reluctant to see her at first, they agree to meet in the afternoons -- just to talk. He feels a freedom with her that he doesn't experience with anyone else because they have, he thinks, no commitments to each other. So, they talk of their problems and their relationships and, before long, Frederic finds that he is becoming increasingly attracted to her. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

This seedy but effective little supernatural thriller involves a group of seven travelers -- each of whom represents one of the Seven Deadly Sins -- who take shelter in a mysterious baron's haunted castle, where they are visited in turn by a seductive, lingerie-clad succubus (Erika Blanc), who metes out suitable punishment in accordance with their evil deeds. It is revealed that their enigmatic host is a former Nazi general whose family's Satanic legacy includes the birth of a malevolent she-demon into each generation. Only the token priest of the group manages to stand up to the evil forces.
