Acclaimed film director Sydney Pollack took a five-year break from the realms of fiction to assemble a lovingly crafted tribute to longtime friend and acclaimed architect Frank Gehry in this documentary born from the sketches of its talented subject. A notoriously shy craftsman whose impressive body of work includes the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Ghery is shown working in his studio unobstructed as Pollack attempts to capture the very essence of the artist's bold works through use of film and digital video. Driven by an intimate but informal series of discussions between Ghery and Pollack, Sketches of Frank Gehry uses the subject of architecture as a launching point to discuss the creative process, and paints a fascinating portrait of how one humble man was able to create some of the world's most awe-inspiring structures. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Midwest experimental filmmaker James Fotopoulos employs his grim cinematic style for Back Against the Wall. Levey (Martin Shannon) lives in a harshly lit apartment decorated with mostly cardboard boxes. Waiting for his girlfriend June (Debbie Mulcahy) to return, he plays chess, reads books, and meets with his friend Ed (Ernie E. Frantz). When Levey is unresponsive to her underwear modeling show for him, she leaves him for Vince (Michael Wexler), which leads the film into a strange mix of pornography and violence. Following a sexually fueled costume party in a farmhouse, Vince is beaten up by thugs. The final segment focuses on Ed and June with a grotesque enigmatic ending. Shot in 16 mm black-and-white, Back Against the Wall premiered at the Anthology Film Archives in New York. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide
This little chiller unfolds like a late-night campfire ghost story as it tells the strange tale of treasure hunters and a prison break from a North Carolina prison farm. It begins when a man approaches two inmates at the prison farm and tells them about a fabulous treasure buried in the coffin of a wealthy but miserly merchant. The convicts, King and Tyn, want the treasure and so bribe a guard into letting them escape. They leave the man who told them about the cache back in the pen. While on the lam, Tyn gets shot trying to steal clothing from a laundry line and the two end up forced to bring in King's ex-lover and some old gang mates to help them find the grave. The guard then shows up and demands a share of the take and this creates all sorts of problems. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
