Family loyalties force a man to return to the life of crime he left behind in this Swedish thriller. Valle (Jacob Ericksson) is a well-respected and straight-laced doctor living in Stockholm with his wife (Helena af Sandeberg) and daughter. But Valle's life was not always as safe and secure as it is today -- before he got his degree, Valle supported himself by dealing hard drugs, and one of his customers was his younger brother Adam (Gustaf Skarsgard). Years later, Adam is hooked on drugs and deals cocaine to pay for his habit. Adam has bought a large supply of blow from underworld boss Masen (Michael Nvqvist), and when the drugs are stolen, Adam has no way to pay for the stash. Adam is aware that his life is on the line, and with no other options, he begs Valle for help. Valle's conscience still bothers him over introducing his brother to drugs, and he promises to do what he can for Adam, fully aware he's not just putting his own life in jeopardy, but that of his wife and child. Iskariot (aka Iscariot) received its world premiere at the 2008 Gothenburg Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

When a nine-year-old Arab refugee is left stranded in Stockholm following the death of her grandfather, a group of local street kids take her in and fight for her right to remain in Sweden. Left alone on the streets of Stockholm after her grandfather succumbs to a fatal heart attack, young Amina (Beylula Kidane Adgoy) quickly realizes that without a residence permit she could be deported at will by authorities. Thankfully for the frightened lass, friendly neighbor Mirre (Embla Hjulström) hatches a clever plan to keep her gal pal around by housing her with hard-rocking neighbor, Johan (Gustaf Skarsgård). Though at first reluctant to take responsibility for the young refugee, Johan soon develops a close bond with the girl as the neighborhood kids team up to expose a gang of thieves who are stashing stolen goods in a nearby basement. Later, when benevolent social worker Janet (Jennifer Brown) catches wind of Amina's plight, she joins the fight to ensure that she isn't deported while simultaneously falling for the scruffy-but-lovable Johan in the process. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Swedish filmmaker Mikael Hafstrom directs the coming-of-age drama Ondskan (Evil), based on the autobiographical novel by Jan Guillou. In the mid-'50s, teenager Erik Ponti (Andreas Wilson) suffers serious abuse at the hands of his father (Johan Rabaeus). He translates the violence at home to school, eventually getting himself expelled for fighting. His mother (Marie Richardson) struggles to come up with the money to send him to a private school, where the senior boys brutally haze the juniors in a ritualistic tradition. Erik makes enemies with senior Otto Silverheim (Gustaf Skarsgård), but, fortunately, finds friendship with Pierre (Henrik Lundstrom) and romance with Marja (Linda Zilliacus).
