One young man's dream takes him on a remarkable journey in this sports-themed drama. Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) was born in Mexico, and came to California with his family when he was just a boy. One of the few things Santiago brought with him was a love for soccer, and while he holds down two jobs -- working landscaping during the days with his father, Hernan (Tony Plana), and as a busboy at night -- he still dreams of playing the game professionally, and spends his precious spare time with an amateur team in Los Angeles. One day, Santiago is approached by Glen Foy (Stephen Dillane), a part-time scout for powerhouse British team Newcastle United; Glen has seen Santiago play and thinks he has talent, and can get him a tryout with Newcastle if he can make his way to England. While Hernan refuses to help Santiago pay for the trip, his grandmother (Miriam Colon) empties her savings to help him follow his dream. Santiago's first reserve game with the team happens during a typically British rainstorm, with Santiago suffering a mild asthma attack to boot; he doesn't play at his best and is turned away from the team, but he refuses to go home, determined to make good. After striking up a friendship with star kicker Gavin Harris (Alessandro Nivola) and demonstrating his mettle to coach Mal Braithwaite (Gary Lewis), Santiago earns a second chance to show Newcastle United what he can do and make his father proud of him. Nina (Sarah Clarke) is brought into CTU. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) has an emotional reunion with Kim (Elisha Cuthbert). He wants to interrogate Nina about Alvers (Lothaire Bluteau), but Chappelle (Paul Schulze) insists that Jack himself be interrogated about his heroin problem. So Tony (Carlos Bernard) handles Nina, while Rae Plachecki (Jenette Goldstein) from the inspector general's office questions Jack about why he started using heroin long before he got in with the Salazars. Chappelle proposes fudging the timeline so his drug use looks more legitimate, and letting Jack get back to work, but Jack refuses to lie about his actions, or even justify them. "This office demands results," Jack tells them. "That's what I provide." Darren Richards (Butch Klein), an interrogation (torture?) specialist, is brought in to work on Nina, with disastrous results. Jack seems to be the only one at CTU who understands just how dangerous Nina is. Chase (James Badge Dale) learns that Kim found out that the baby is his. He asks Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) how she took the news. "Gee, I don't know, Chase," Chloe tells him. "I think she's kinda pissed." Meanwhile, Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) returns to Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) headquarters, and tells him that she only spoke to Julia (Gina Torres) on the phone. But Julia calls Wayne (D.B. David L. Cunningham follows up on his acclaimed Beyond Paradise with this Bridge Over the River Kwai-like POW drama. Following Japan's surprise invasion of Singapore during the waning days of 1941, a small British battalion headed by Lieutenant Colonel McLean (James Cosmo), Major Campbell (Robert Carlyle), Captain Gordon (Ciaran McMenamin), and Lieutenant Tom Ridgen (Kiefer Sutherland) are captured and imprisoned in a camp deep in the Burmese jungle. Soon after arriving, Major Campbell starts to an uprising. Worn down by an exhausting march through the woods, brutal daily beatings, and a lack of food, the troops are in no mood for a coup and the scheme collapses. Captain Gordon copes with the camp's extreme conditions in a polar opposite manner -- by forgiving his captors and seeking spiritual salvation. Soon a split occurs within the camp between those who follow Campbell's tireless efforts for physical freedom and those who follow Gordon's more transcendent pursues.
