NYPD Blue returns after a five-week hiatus with Detective Baldwin Jones (Henry Simmons) under intense scrutiny of both the IAB and the media. It all started during a shoot-out with a suspect, in which an innocent bystander, a 13-year-old teenager, was killed. Jones' future looks bleak until evidence reveals that the "innocent" victim may have been anything but. And in the aftermath of his father's suicide, John Clark Jr. (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) is unable to control his grief, which spills over into his relationship with Rita Ortiz (Jacqueline Obradors) -- who is having enough trouble investigating an unsavory case of improper police procedure. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Peter Falk returns to the role of Lt. Columbo -- he of the grimy trenchcoat, dumb-like-a-fox interrogations, and the inevitable "Just one more question" -- in this two-hour TV-movie special. British comic actor Billy Connolly guest stars as famed movie composer/conductor Findlay Crawford, who commits murder rather than have the public discover that his Oscar-winning movie scores were ghostwritten by a younger and more talented tunesmith. Although the hard-drinking Crawford does a magnificent job covering his tracks and deflecting suspicion, shabby little Lt. Columbo suspects that there is more to the case than meets the eye. Beyond the usual cat-and-mouse banter between the detective and his prey, the film includes such highlights as a musical duet between Falk and Connelly (who knew that Peter Falk was capable of so stirring a rendition of "That's Amore"?). Reportedly filmed in 1999, Columbo: Murder With Too Many Notes made its ABC network bow on March 12, 2001. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Voyager crew finds itself locked in an orbit around a primitive planet. Though time passes normally on the ship, several centuries go by on the planet's surface -- during which period a tribal society develops, worshipping the orbiting "star" as the manifestation of an omnipotent Greater Power. The dilemma: If the crew does not break free of the planet's gravitational pull, they will be doomed; and if they do escape, that aforementioned society may collapse in ruins. A fascinating exercise in relativity and reverence, "Blink of an Eye" was first telecast on January 19, 2000. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Aspiring moviemaker Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek) and his lifelong friends Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) and Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson) enter their sophomore year of high school as Dawson's Creek enters its inaugural season. Life in Capeside, MA, has been fairly sedate for the trio up till now, but with the arrival of Dawson's new next-door neighbor, 15-year-old Jen Lindley (Michelle Williams), things begin to heat up a bit. Joey is jealous because Dawson clearly likes Jen, Pacey is jealous of Joey because he likes Jen, and Jen is stimulated by all the attention, having had far more carnal experience than Dawson, Joey, and Pacey combined. But Pacey is soon making up for lost time, losing his virginity to his attractive teacher, Ms. Tamara Jacobs (Leann Hunley), who is forced to leave town to avoid a scandal. Pacey's friends' romantic adventures are somewhat more chaste, with both Dawson and Joey enjoying their first kisses (though not as yet with each other) in the course of the season. Later on, flirtatious Jen breaks Dawson's heart, but comes to regret her actions. On a less frolicsome note, Dawson finds out that his TV-newsperson mother, Gail (Mary-Margaret Humes), is cheating on Dawson's dad, Mitch (John Wesley Shipp). As in future seasons, movie references abound during season one of Dawson's Creek, notably in the episode "Detention," a virtual remake of The Breakfast Club. The season ends with Dawson and Joey realizing that there is something wonderful between them, thanks to a long and passionate kiss (minus the expected discreet fade out!). But nothing may come of this, since Joey seems poised to move to France. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Dawson's smart-alecky friend Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson) adventurously begins hitting on an older woman, who turns out to be the new Capeside High English teacher, Tamara Jacobs (Leann Hunley).
