Christopher Gorham Movies
Roles in such popular small-screen series as Party of Five, Popular, and
Felicity have made actor
Christopher Gorham a familiar face to television viewers, and with the premiere of his sci-fi drama Jake 2.0 in 2003, it seems as though the burgeoning actor may have finally come into his own in the competitive realm of prime-time television. Born to a certified public accountant and a school nurse in California,
Gorham discovered his love of acting early on when he took home his school's Best Actor award for his portrayal of The Mad Hatter in a fourth grade production of Alice in Wonderland.
Gorham advanced to Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater before enrolling in the Roosevelt School of the Arts, and it was there that he truly began to refine his skills on-stage. A B.A. in film and theater arts from U.C.L.A. was soon to follow, and shortly after college,
Gorham began landing roles in television (Party of Five) and film (
A Life Less Ordinary). After sticking to the small screen for Popular,
Gorham took a supporting role in the 2000 feature Dean Quixote and the lead in the Mormon drama
The Other Side of Heaven (2001). Of course it was only a matter of time before
Gorham took the lead on the small screen as well, and following supporting performances in
Felicity and
Odyssey 5 he was heading the cast of the weekly sci-fi drama Jake 2.0. The story of a young man's journey from typical teen to superhuman hero debuted in September of 2003. He would continue to work on the small screen playing Henry, the love interest on Ugly Betty, and he had major parts in the 2010 indie comedy Answer This! And the 2011 thriller The Ledge. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This gentle romantic comedy stars Alyssa Milano (Who's the Boss?) as Jesse, a brassy, outspoken single woman in her late thirties who longs to find Mr. Right, and happens upon him in the form of Ethan (Christopher Gorham), an aspiring writer on the edge of sanity after having yet another novel rejected by publishers. In Ethan, Jesse sees the answer to her prayers and a chance to drum up greater inspiration than the struggling writer has seen in years. But then fate strikes again, in the form of a second Mr. Right: Troy (Michael Landes), a slick advertising executive with the uncanny knack for making any situation or circumstance passionately romantic. Suddenly, after years of singleness, Jesse has two options at her fingertips, and each one strikes her as too good to be true. The supporting cast features Beau Bridges and Carol Kane. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

In this Six Million Dollar Man for the computer-wonk generation, Christopher Gorham starred as Jake Foley, a nerdish Georgetown graduate who yearned to be a spy. Presenting his credentials to the CIA-ish National Security Agency, Jake was immediately hired -- as a lower-level computer repairman. It was while working in this capacity that our hero was exposed to fragments of an experimental biotech formula, which instantly transformed him into a half-human, half-computerized cyborg. Though poor Jake didn't quite know how to best use his new, awesome powers (heck, he couldn't even use them to score with chicks), the NSA opted to make the hapless fellow the central figure in a special-ops force designed to foil villains throughout the world. Other characters include Jake's NSA boss, Kyle Duarte (Philip Anthony-Rodriguez); fellow agent Louise Beckett (Judith Scott); congressional staffer Sarah Heywood (Marina Black); research doctor Diane Hughes (Keegan Connor Tracy); and our hero's comic-relief roommate, Darin Metcalf (Matt Czuchry). Created by Silvio Horta, the weekly, 60-minute Jake 2.0 made its UPN debut on September 10, 2003. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A young man from Idaho finds himself in a beautiful but dangerous land in the South Pacific as he follows his faith and tries to spread it to others in this adventure-drama, based on a true story. In 1953, John Groberg (Christopher Gorham) is a 19-year-old student at Brigham Young University, whose greatest adventure in life had been to leave home to go to school in Utah. That all changes when Groberg accepts a missionary assignment in the Tonga Islands near Fiji; Groberg is instructed to "build a kingdom" and educate the natives about the Mormon faith, even though he knows little of their customs and nothing of their language. Leaving behind his sweetheart, Jean Sabin (Anne Hathaway), Groberg arrives in Tonga and is quickly immersed in the native culture, and strives to teach the Tongans about the teachings of the Latter-Day Saints while trying to respect their cultural traditions and face the joys and struggles of primitive life in the South Pacific alongside them. Groberg makes a valuable ally in Feki (Joe Folau), a Tongan who becomes an avid follower of the Mormon faith, but he also finds his loyalty to Jean (with whom he's been maintaining a long-distance relationship through cards and letters) tested when a native girl makes her attraction to him quite clear. Based on the real John Groberg's memoir In the Eye of the Storm, The Other Side of Heaven was produced by Jerry Molen, Academy Award winning producer of Schindler's List and Jurassic Park; it also marked the directorial debut of screenwriter Mitch Davis. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Season one of Popular ended with what seemed to be a dual triumph for snooty high-school cheerleader Brooke (Leslie Bibb) and her intellectual classroom rival Samantha (Carly Pope), as the wedding between Brooke's dad, Mike (Scott Bryce), was canceled after the announcement from Brooke's real mom, Kelly (Peggy Lipton), that her divorce from Mike was never finalized! Season two picks up the action, with Kelly scheming and conniving to win back Mike's love, and the heartbroken Jane briefly moving out of town with Sam in tow. Elsewhere, the walls of the two leading cliques at Jacqueline Kennedy High School -- Brooke's and Sam's -- are slowly crumbling to dust. Brooke's bitchy friend Nicole (Tammy Lynn Michaels) is aghast when she loses her coveted slot in the "Glamazon" cheerleading squad to Sam's chubby chum Carmen (Sara Rue). Brooke's football-jock boyfriend, Josh (Bryce Johnson), likewise finds his supremacy challenged by newly arrived gridiron star George Austin (A.T. Montgomery), who, to make matters worse, has crossed over to the enemy camp by dating Sam. And in a similar move, Sam's nerdy buddy Harrison (Christopher Gorham) commits a form of treason by going out with Brooke's shrill Southern-belle pal Mary Cherry (Leslie Grossman); can it be that Harrison's later bout with leukemia is punishment for selling out his anti-clique values? (Even worse: once his disease is in remission, Harrison takes up with Brooke herself!) As the season (and the series) draws to close, Sam's mom, Jane, gives birth to a baby conceived during her relationship with Brooke's dad, Mike, and for a few fleeting minutes the two girls become inseparable friends. But this truce is forgotten by season's end, which concludes with a nail-biting cliffhanger...one that, alas, will likely never be resolved. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

It's "clique" vs. "anti-clique" at Jacqueline Kennedy High School during the first season of the continuing teen drama Popular. Outraged by the smug social supremacy of head cheerleader Brooke Page (Leslie Bibb) and her snooty, shallow friends, Samantha "Sam" McPherson, crusading editor of the school newspaper, forms her own "army" of the anti-cool, comprised of nerds and misfits. Imagine the horror of the two rival leaders when Sam's mom, Jane (Lisa Darr), falls in love with Brooke's dad, Mike (Scott Bryce). Forced to bury the hatchet and form a united front against this dreadful contingency, Sam and Brooke conspire to break up their parents' romance before they make things legal via marriage. As for the friends of the two heroines, dweebish Harrison John (Christopher Gorham) is burdened by his apparently hopeless crush on Sam, and by his mom's decision to become a lesbian. And Brooke's boyfriend, football star Josh Ford (Bryce Johnson), breaks ranks by dating Sam's chubby chum Carmen Ferrara (Sara Rue). Amidst all this intrigue, a subplot involving the efforts of deranged Nurse Jessie Glass (Diane Delano) to murder her twin sister, Bobbi (also Delano), seem almost benign by comparison! It should surprise no one that the first season of Popular ends on a cliffhanger. In this instance, the wedding of Jane McPherson and Mike McQueen is rudely interrupted by a surprise announcement from Brooke's biological mom, Kelly (Peggy Lipton). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
