Orlando Seale Movies

Dashing British stage and screen performer Orlando Seale came of age in London as the son of an art gallery owner, and trained dramatically at several esteemed institutions, including Paris' Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique and London's L'École Philippe Gaulier, after completing his undergraduate studies at Oxford University's St. Peter's College. An extremely versatile performer, Seale harbored and cultivated ambitions that lay outside the realm of traditional drama, and studied such diverse modes of expression as playwriting, vocal performance, fencing, dancing, and clown work. Seale spent a year with the esteemed Royal Shakespeare Company, and indeed landed one of his first screen assignments in a Shakespeare production: Kenneth Branagh's over-scaled, four-hour cinematization of Hamlet (1996) -- albeit as an understudy/stuntman for lead (and fellow RSC vet) Branagh.

Seale's next major movie role arrived three years later, with a small supporting turn in Tim Burton's gothic fable Sleepy Hollow (1999); the exposure from that appearance helped to net Seale more substantial work, and he spent the next several years juggling a heavy slate of assignments that exhibited laudable diversity. Among other accomplishments, he evoked Albert Einstein in The Infinite Worlds of H.G. Wells (2001), rocker Joe Elliott in Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story (2001), and Darcy in Andrew Black's Mormon-themed Jane Austen update, Pride & Prejudice: A Latter-Day Comedy (2003). After delving into American television with guest roles on Monk and The West Wing, and eking out a small role in Emilio Estevez's period ensemble drama Bobby (2006), Seale played an elf in David Dobkin's holiday comedy Fred Claus (2007) and starred opposite Heather Graham and Mia Kirshner in the romantic comedy Miss Conception (2008). ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

In this tribute to the man considered by many to be the father of the science fiction genre, a reporter interviewing author H.G. Wells makes a startling revelation that could forever change mankind's relationship with the universe. Upon arriving at Wells' London home on a fog enshrouded evening in 1946, newspaper reporter Ellen McGillivray is regaled with tales of time travel dating back to Wells' days at London's Imperial College of Science. It seems that Wells and colleague Jane Robbins stumbled across a previously undiscovered rift in time during a series of midnight experiments, and though the pair swore to keep the discovery a secret, the experience forever bonded the adventurous scientists. When Ellen accepts Wells' outlandish tales at face value, his shock at her lack of disbelief is countered by the revelation that she is an underground government agent posing as a reporter in hopes of discovering the secrets of a crystal orb rumored to hold the secrets of the entire universe. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

The saga of pop metal superstars Def Leppard is told in this biopic, produced by cable television music channel VH1. The film traces the band's history from their origins as a teenage hard rock act in the English industrial town of Sheffield to the massive success they enjoyed worldwide as multi-platinum recording artists. Def Leppard's rise to the top is depicted as driven by rabidly dedicated lead singer Joe Elliott (Orlando Seale), though along with the money, supermodels and parties there are tragedies as well. Original guitarist Pete Willis (Nick Bagnall) is sacked when excessive drink affects his performance, drummer Rick Allen (Tat Whalley) loses an arm in a car accident and must endure grueling effort to learn how to play again, and lead guitarist Steve Clark (Karl Geary) struggles with alcoholism as he bounces in and out of rehab centers. Through all the tribulations and excess, however, the band sticks together like brothers and fights to keep rocking as a unit. ~ Fred Beldin, All Movie Guide

Washington Irving's tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman gets a few new twists in a screen adaptation directed by Tim Burton. In this version, Ichabod (Johnny Depp) is a New York City detective whose unorthodox techniques and penchant for gadgets make him unpopular with is colleagues. He is sent to the remote town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of bizarre murders, in which a number of people have been found dead in the woods, with their heads cut off. Local legend has it that a Hessian ghost rides through the woods on horseback, lopping off the heads of the unsuspecting and unbelieving. Ichabod refuses to believe in this legend, convinced that there must be a logical explanation for the murders. In time, Ichabod becomes smitten with a local lass, Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci), who is the sweetheart of the burly Brom Bones (Casper Van Dien), and he becomes determined to capture the murderer to prove his bravery and win her heart. Christopher Walken, Jeffrey Jones, and Christopher Lee highlight the supporting cast; Lee's appearance is particularly apt, since Burton has cited the Hammer films of the 1960s as a major influence in making this film. Andrew Kevin Walker and Tom Stoppard contributed to the screenplay. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

The topic of this comedy-drama, originally made for British television, is date rape and it is presented from both the alleged victim's and the attacker's viewpoints. The trouble begins when a lusty med-school student agrees to go out on a date with a young woman who has a big crush upon him. As the date progresses, their conversation is intercut with snippets from their inner thoughts. She has her doubts about sleeping with him and opts for friendship, while he is primarily interested in getting a little action. But as time passes, the girl becomes unsure and sends him decidedly mixed messages. The next morning, the girl claims she was raped and starts prosecution proceedings. Both the plaintiff and the defendant give the jury different explanations of the circumstances and it is only after a verdict is reached that the truth about the evening is shown. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
