Michelle Krusiec Movies

Raven-haired beauty Michelle Krusiec was a burgeoning star at an age when most are at their most awkward. At the age of 12, she was spotted by a talent scout in her hometown of Virginia Beach. It wasn't long before she was enrolled in a prestigious magnet school geared toward the arts, and soon afterward walking the halls of Virginia Tech, where she picked up degrees in theater and English. Travel would dominate the coming months for Krusiec, as she completed additional studies at Oxford and, in 1996, became the host of the Discovery Channel's Travelers, which took her to 50 destinations around the world. Once her adventure was over, the young actress began building up her acting resume, appearing on television shows like Providence and Popular. In 1998, she scored a starring role in the Saturday morning sitcom One World, and she stayed with the series for all of its three seasons. Krusiec continued to add to her filmography, accepting supporting roles in movies like Pumpkin, Sweet Home Alabama, and Daddy Day Care, as well as appearances on shows like ER and Titus. Then, in 2004, Krusiec landed the leading role in a small, independent film called Saving Face. She played a Chinese-American surgeon named Wil who lives in Manhattan. When her mother, an immigrant and an extremely traditional woman, shows up at her door pregnant and unmarried, Wil agrees to help her, but cultures soon clash. The conservative nature of her family has made will reluctant to bring her relationship with her girlfriend (played by Lynn Chen) out in the open, and her mother's disapproval of her gay lifestyle heightens tensions even more. The jarring nature of she and her mother's role reversals only added to the dramatic meat for the actress to bite into, and the film proved a true test of her abilities. The film was a critical smash, praised for its sensitive portrayal of Krusiec and Chen's relationship, as well as Chen's performance. Without skipping a beat, she jumped back into the saddle with roles on Weeds, Grey's Anatomy, and Without a Trace. In 2006, she signed on to appear in Nanking, Bill Guttentag's documentary about the 1937 massacre of the Chinese city. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi

After a stretch in prison, Mike (Anslem Richardson) wants nothing more than to put his life back on track. He's enrolled in a work release program, has a steady job as a locksmith, and is trying to convince his girlfriend to give him another chance. However, what seems like an ordinary day on the job takes a dramatic left turn when he gets a call from potential customer Margo (Ana Reeder). Margo is a foul-mouthed and over-excited woman who is convinced her fiancé Charles (Stephen Rannazzisi) has been unfaithful to her. Two strangers (Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher) find themselves hitched after a wild night of Las Vegas shenanigans in this 20th Century Fox comedy. Jack Fuller (Kutcher) is a single Manhattanite who can never quite commit to a permanent, long-term relationship and repeatedly hears from his lovers that he "isn't serious boyfriend material." Employed by his father (Treat Williams) at a local furniture business, Jack spends his workdays goofing off by watching sporting events behind dad's back. Joy McNally (Diaz) is faring slightly better; a young, polished urbanite, she juggles a demanding job as a trader on the NYSE with a marital engagement to the impressive Mason (Jason Sudeikis), but has modified her entire life and all of her interests to please her intended.

Coincident with Mr. Fuller's decision to fire his son, Mason severs his engagement to Joy; as a result, both Jack and Joy hit the skids at around the same time and decide to cut their losses by heading out to Vegas. The two accidentally bump into one another when a computer mix-up at the hotel puts them in adjoining rooms; though they begin their acquaintanceship by bickering endlessly, they end up spending a long, drunken night on the town together, and when the sun rises and Joy comes to, she discovers that she unwittingly married Jack in the middle of the night. Alas, just when the two are about to call it quits by filing for divorce after the shortest marriage in history, Jack tosses a coin into a Vegas slot machine and hits a three-million-dollar jackpot -- which naturally pits the newlyweds against one another in an attempt to claim the full share of the money. A conservative local judge, R.D. Whopper (Dennis Miller), then adds the final twist by refusing to grant a divorce until Joy and Jack have given married life a fair shake. In time, the marrieds may just discover that this union isn't as far off the mark as they initially thought. Dennis Farina, Queen Latifah, and Zach Galifianakis round out the supporting cast. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

Filmmaker Bill Guttentag takes a closer look at the atrocities committed by the Japanese after Nanking fell to the Imperial Japanese Army in 1937 with this documentary that was inspired by Iris Chang's novel The Rape of Nanking. Compiled from over 700 hours of footage including news-reel footage, interviews with survivors and soldiers, and staged readings, Nanking was financed in large by millionaire Ted Leonsis, who had read Chang's obituary and subsequently been prompted to read the author's best-selling account of the massacre. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

In the tradition of such omnibus films as Tales of Manhattan and Flesh and Fantasy, the made-for-TV Snow Wonder features five separate stories, tenuously linked together by a single plot strand -- in this case, a freak Christmas Eve snowstorm that has blanketed the world, striking even in such traditionally snow-free areas as Malaysia and Hawaii. While Madagascar-based meteorologist Billy (Josh Randall) tries to make sense of the phenomenon, his lovely assistant, Joey (Michelle Krusiec), muses philosophically "Snow can change people's lives." How right she is. As the film progresses, we are whisked off to Kentucky, where lovelorn bridesmaid Paula (Poppy Montgomery) watches in mute astonishment as her best friend's wedding crashes and burns as a result of the sudden blizzard; to New Mexico, where recently widowed Bev (Camryn Manheim) has retreated in hopes of overcoming the bitterness attending the death of her husband exactly one year before; to New York, where young Luke (Eric Szmanda), an aspiring writer whose parents seem to take great delight in discouraging him, receives a surfeit of inspiration from his freewheeling aunt Lila (Mary Tyler Moore); and to Baltimore, where philandering husband Warren (Jason Priestley), who has prepared the "perfect alibi" with which to hoodwink his loving wife, is helplessly snowbound with his current mistress. By film's end, the good have been rewarded, the bad have been punished, and something special develops between Billy and Joey...suggesting that this is no ordinary "random" snowstorm. Based on Connie Willis' short story Just Like the Ones We Used to Know, Snow Wonder made its CBS debut on November 20, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Outside Isabelle's (Allie Grant) dance class, the gossip about Dean's (Andy Milder) affair with the local tennis pro, Helen Kim (Michelle Krusiec of Saving Face), are reaching fever pitch, and Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) also overhears Celia (Elizabeth Perkins) telling Isabelle that Quinn has been sent off to boarding school in Mexico. A bounced check sends a distraught Nancy on a visit to Doug (Kevin Nealon), who suggests that Nancy needs a front business in order to maintain a checking account without leaving a paper trail. Nancy's money woes are creating problems at home and at work. The phone's been turned off, and Nancy gets an amused reaction when she asks Heylia (Tonye Patano) about her "credit policy." Nancy has buyers lined up, but doesn't have the cash for the weed, so she has to leave the family car as collateral, and drives off in Conrad's (Romany Malco) beloved "hooptie." Meanwhile, Celia has gone on the offensive in her house, shaving Dean's head while he sleeps. "Did your hair go to boarding school in Mexico, too?" a bemused Isabelle asks her father over breakfast the next morning. Confronted by Silas (Hunter Parrish) about Quinn's sudden disappearance, Celia points out that Quinn had a day and a half to "put her affairs in order," and didn't bother to call Silas, so it hits home when she calls Silas "a fun and sweaty diversion" for her daughter. Later on, Celia visits the tennis club, and goes for a drink and a not-so-friendly chat with Helen Kim. Shane (Alexander Gould) seems to be spending all of his free time watching old home movies of his dearly departed father, Judah (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

An Asian-American woman and her mother both find their private lives are becoming a family matter in this romantic comedy-drama. Wilhelmina Pang (Michelle Krusiec) is a surgeon living in Manhattan whose mother (Joan Chen) is eager for her to settle down with a nice man and get married. What Ma doesn't know is that Wilhelmina happens to be a lesbian -- or rather, Ma prefers not to acknowledge it, since she once walked in on Wilhelmina and her girlfriend several years before. As it happens, Wilhelmina is looking for someone special in her life, and thinks she may have found her in Vivian (Lynn Chen), a beautiful dancer, but a fear of commitment and a desire to keep her medical career on track is making their relationship problematic. As Wilhelmina tries to get her love life in order, her mother's shifts into crisis mode. Ma, a 48-year-old widow, has just discovered she's pregnant, and her staunchly traditional father (Li Zhiyu) will not allow her back into the home they share until she's married someone respectable. Unwilling to name the father of her baby, Ma is forced to move in with Wilhelmina, and while enduring the emotional roller coaster of pregnancy she is being pressured by friends and relatives to marry Cho (Nathaniel Geng), a sweet but boring man she doesn't especially like. Just how far would you go to have the home of your dreams all to yourself? A couple start asking themselves that very question in this dark comedy directed by Danny DeVito. Alex (Ben Stiller) and Nancy (Drew Barrymore) are a young couple who are happy and successful, but lack one thing that they truly want -- the perfect home in Manhattan. Alex and Nancy think they may have found just the place they've been looking for when they discover the bottom half of a beautiful old duplex has opened up. While the couple are delighted with their new flat, they discover it has one major disadvantage they hadn't counted on -- their upstairs neighbor, Mrs. Connelly (Eileen Essel), an elderly woman who soon makes their lives a living hell. Persuading Mrs. Connelly to move is fruitless, since she has a long term rent-controlled lease, and as things become more and more difficult, Alex and Nancy begin to wonder if she won't go away on her own, perhaps a more drastic (and permanent) solution may be in order. Duplex also stars Harvey Fierstein, Justin Theroux, James Remar, and Swoosie Kurtz. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Two fathers get a crash course in caring for kids other than their own in this family-friendly comedy. Charlie Hinton (Eddie Murphy) is an advertising executive whose job monopolizes his time, making it difficult for him to stay in touch with his young son, Ben (Khamani Griffin). However, after Charlie and his partner, Phil (Jeff Garlin), are given their pink slips in the wake of a disastrous campaign for a new breakfast cereal, Charlie's wife, Kim (Regina King), goes back to work, and with the family budget tighter than before, Charlie becomes a stay-at-home dad. After pulling Ben out of an expensive and exclusive daycare center run by the humorless Gwyneth Harridan (Anjelica Huston), Charlie comes up with a brainstorm -- since he and Phil watch their own children every day, how much harder could it be to watch a few more kids and open their own day care center? Charlie and Phil discover there's much more to running a daycare center than they ever imagined, but after a very rough start, with the help of likable slacker Marvin (Steve Zahn) their new business becomes a success -- so much so that Harridan finds herself losing customers to the upstart fathers, and she starts searching for a way to shut them down. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
