As the program opens, Bauer spends his time doing missionary work in Africa, laying low while the United States government attempts to capture him. His work leads him into contact with an evil warlord who maintains a loyal army by constantly brainwashing children into joining him. Bauer risks his freedom in order to stop the warlord. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) is forced to conduct a brutal interrogation of Paul (James Frain), with Audrey (Kim Raver) looking on. Paul pleads ignorance, explaining that he owns so much property and is involved with so many buildings that he can't keep it all straight. He eventually remembers that a man named "Harris Barnes" bought out the company that owned the building in question, and Jack soon learns that Barnes is the alias of one Habib Marwan (Arnold Vosloo). He heads to Marwan's office. Curtis (Roger R. Cross) has been captured, and is interrogated by a man named Forbes (Richard Marcus), who foolishly leaves his henchman to finish Curtis off. Marwan has taken control of the override himself, and is operating it from an office full of co-workers who have no idea what he's up to. When Jack finds out that Curtis, who took Marianne to the same building, isn't answering his phone, he knows to expect trouble. Tony interrogates Dina (Shohreh Aghdashloo), who eventually admits that all the terror cells reported to Marwan, but never had contact with each other. She also reveals that Marwan is controlling the override himself from the office building. While Driscoll (Alberta Watson) continues to deal with her unruly daughter, Maya (Angela Goethals), CTU teams converge on the office building to find Marwan and the override and stop the meltdowns. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Dina's been killed, and Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) is now genuinely Marwan's (Arnold Vosloo) prisoner. After some bickering with Jack, Marwan learns that the local police are looking into the disappearance of the murdered pilot's family, and comes up with a plan to distract CTU so they won't notice the report when they get it. He calls CTU and offers to exchange Jack for Behrooz (Jonathan Ahdout). CTU has no idea why Marwan would want Behrooz, so Tony (Carlos Bernard) tells Curtis (Roger R. Cross) to interrogate the boy and find out if he's withheld any information. Just as Marwan planned, the decision over whether or not to make the exchange, and the logistics of the exchange prevent Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and Edgar (Louis Lombardi) from noticing the pertinent information in the local police report until it is too late. Bill Buchanan (James Morrison) shows up from Division to oversee operations at CTU Los Angeles, and decides to go through with an exchange, putting a hidden tracking device on the distraught Behrooz in hopes of finding Marwan. Shortly after being sworn in before the media, Logan (Gregory Itzin) finds out that the nation's nuclear arsenal might be at risk, and goes into panic mode, taking refuge in an underground command center beneath the White House. Marwan's (Arnold Vosloo) dastardly plans are going smoothly, until one of his men, Yosik (Nicholas Guilak), calls to say he absent-mindedly used his credit card to buy gas. Sure enough, Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) notices the transaction, made in Torrance by one of Marwan's known associates, and Curtis (Roger R. Cross) is dispatched to find Yosik. CTU tracks him to a local marina, where he meets with a man named Joe Prado (John Thaddeus). The two get on a boat, presumably to make their escape, but Yosik spots Curtis' team moving in, and, following Marwan's instructions, prepares to kill Prado, then himself. However, Prado overhears him on the phone and kills Yosik, then surrenders to CTU, claiming that he's an innocent bystander and that Yosik was trying to steal his boat. Prado is taken to CTU for questioning, but when Marwan realizes that he's been captured, he arranges to have David Weiss (Evan Handler of Sex and the City), a lawyer from "Amnesty Global," visit CTU Los Angeles with a court order, to make sure the sleazy mercenary is not tortured. Buchanan (James Morrison) tries to get Logan to sign off on the interrogation, but, warned by his advisor Walt Cummings (John Allen Nelson), the acting president is unwilling to sign off on it without first consulting with the Justice Department. As the fourth season of 24 begins, terrorists blow up a train, and steal a mysterious briefcase from a passenger onboard. At CTU, Erin Driscoll (Alberta Watson) is running things, and she has fired Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) over his heroin addiction. Jack is now working for Secretary of Defense James Heller (William Devane) and is romantically involved with Heller's daughter and aide, Audrey (Kim Raver). Jack wants to tell Heller about their relationship, but Audrey is hesitant because she is still legally married to her estranged husband. Word reaches CTU of the train bombing, and Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) notices that one Tomas Sherek (Faran Tahir), on their terrorist watch list, was recently spotted in L.A. Andrew Paige (Lukas Haas), a hacker, discovers some nodes indicating that someone is plotting a massive corruption of the Internet. He calls his old classmate, Chloe, who sees a possible connection to the terrorist attack, but Driscoll insists that Chloe focus on the bombing and on finding Sherek, ordering Chloe to pass Andrew's concerns along to the FBI. Andrew returns to his office to find that his discovery has not gone unnoticed, and his life is in danger. Jack arrives at CTU on budgetary business in time to help his replacement in the field, Ronnie Lobell (Shawn Doyle), apprehend Sherek. Jack realizes that a terrorist of Sherek's stature would not risk exposure over the bombing. Meanwhile, Audrey accompanies Heller as he visits his rebellious son, Richard (Logan Marshall-Green), and they argue over Richard's plans to denounce his father at an upcoming protest. A suburban couple, Navi (Nestor Serrano) and Dina Araz (Shohreh Aghdashloo), and their teenage son, Behrooz (Jonathan Ahdout), have a connection to the terrorist plot. CTU has learned that the terrorists have stolen an override device, developed by the defense contractor, McLennan-Forster, which gives them remote control of nuclear power plants throughout the country. CTU's best available computer technician, Edgar (Louis Lombardi), has to overcome his nervousness (a mistake could send all of the plants into meltdown) to try to regain control of the plants. Dina (Shohreh Aghdashloo) is shot by Navi (Nestor Serrano) while trying to help Behrooz (Jonathan Ahdout) escape. The mother and son manage to get away, forcing Navi to go to an angry Marwan (Arnold Vosloo) for help in locating them. Driscoll (Alberta Watson) is distracted again when the doctors at the CTU lab inadvertently give Maya (Angela Goethals) a medication to which she's allergic. Audrey (Kim Raver) and Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) have to go to Felsted Security, so that she can view surveillance video of a Heritage Foundation meeting, where she saw a man whom she later saw at the compound with the terrorists. Paul (James Frain), Audrey's estranged husband, is still at CTU, and talks to both Audrey and Heller (William Devane) about his desire to get back together with her. Marianne (Aisha Tyler) is working with the terrorists, and contacts Henry Powell (Robertson Dean) -- the man Audrey recognized -- to let him know where Jack and Audrey are headed. Powell instructs Marianne to cover her tracks, because CTU will know there's a traitor in the agency after Jack and Audrey are killed. When the Felsted building is attacked, and Jack realizes that CTU has been compromised, he calls "the only person [he] can trust." ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide
Season four of the wildly successful "real-time" adventure series 24 begins some 18 months at the end of season three. John Keeler (Geoff Pierson) has succeeded David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) as president of the United States, and the new secretary of defense is James Heller (William Devane) -- who is also the new boss of crack CTU agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). One of Heller's first moves is to reunite Jack with his old nemesis Erin Driscoll (Alberta Watson), now the head of the CTU. Unbeknownst to most of the principal characters, Jack is in love with Heller's daughter (and policy assistant), Audrey Raines (Kim Raver), this despite the fact that Audrey is still legally married to estranged husband, Paul (James Frain). Outside of Jack Bauer and President Keeler, the only series character from season three to return as a regular in season four is CTU tech analyst Chloe O'Brien (Mary Lynn Rajskub); the rest of the cast is virtually brand-new. The "day" that comprises the fourth season begins, typically, with a nail-biting crisis, when James Heller and his daughter Audrey are captured by a terrorist group headed by Habib Marwan (Arnold Vosloo), who has already set a fiendish master plan in motion with a train bombing in the U.S. It soon develops that the abduction of Heller and Audrey is but a subterfuge to allow an enemy stealth bomber to blow up Air Force One and eliminate the president -- and ultimately to gain control of a nuclear warhead that will destroy a major U.S. city. Making matters worse, there is a turncoat in the ranks of the CTU -- and without giving the game away, it can be noted that CTU agent Sarah Gavin (Lana Parrilla) tumbles to the mole's identity before Jack Bauer does. As the tension mounts, Paul Raines is seriously wounded saving Jack during a covert mission, which "ices" Jack's relationship with Audrey; a shattering personal tragedy forces Erin Driscoll to resign from her post in mid-season; there is dissension in the terrorist ranks during a concerted effort to trigger nuclear meltdowns in six different cities; the seldom-used 25th Amendment is invoked to change presidents in midstream; and an old enemy of Jack's from the series' first two seasons appears virtually out of nowhere to make a terrible situation far worse than could ever be imagined. Clearly, the fourth season of 24 drew inspiration from the headlines of the day, notably the controversial treatment of prisoners at Abu Ghraib. The series also was attacked by certain special-interest groups for making several of the villains Arabs, or of Arab descent. And of course, there were those who carped that the series' notion of "real time" (each episode consisted of a single uninterrupted hour in the same day) resulted in some rather ludicrous lapses of logic. Having essentially ordered CTU doctors to let Paul die so they could save Lee (Peter Chen), Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) tries to apologize and explain his actions to Audrey (Kim Raver), but she doesn't want to hear it. The botched mission at the Chinese consulate creates all kinds of problems for CTU. Mike (Jude Ciccolella) warns Jack that the Chinese suspect CTU's involvement, and suggests he assemble his team and make sure they all have alibis. Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) suspects that while the Chinese can't let the incident pass, they will be eager to avoid making it an international incident. He proposes blaming the kidnapping on Asian extremists. Unfortunately, while studying security video, the consul's head of security, Cheng Zhi (Tzi Ma of The Quiet American), sees a brief, blurry image of CTU agent Howard Bern (Robert Cicchini). He contacts the secretary of state, who arranges for Cheng to pay an unwelcome visit to CTU, and alerts Logan (Gregory Itzin), who blows up at Palmer for authorizing the mission. At CTU, Cheng confronts Jack and Buchanan (James Morrison) with the evidence, and they deny Bern's involvement, while Jack arranges for Bern to leave the country. Fortunately, Lee does regain consciousness long enough to give Jack a possible location for Marwan (Arnold Vosloo). At one point during this episode, Buchanan tells Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) that in the midst of the crisis, CTU doesn't "have time for [her] personality disorder," but really, it only takes a few moments each episode, and it's well worth it. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) learns that Nina (Sarah Clarke) is the other buyer in the Mexico deal. "My father couldn't even pretend to work with her," she surmises. Meanwhile, Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) is tied up, with Nina on his lap smooching him. She senses his hatred, and doesn't quite believe he's turned his back on CTU, but Jack manages to get loose anyway. He and Ramon (Joaquim de Almeida) threaten Nina to get her to cooperate. Hector (Vincent Laresca) learns of Claudia's sad fate, and calls his brother, urging him to call off the deal because Chase (James Badge Dale) got away. Ramon insists on going through with the deal. He's concerned about their reputation. The brothers' argument eventually ends in bloodshed. Chase stays in Mexico to be the forward observer for the Delta team, which is ready to move in once the virus changes hands. Back at CTU, Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) gets Kim to watch the baby, but Kim proves an inept babysitter once again, and Chappelle(Paul Schulze) again considers sending Chloe home. Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) brings in Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) to help him in his "street fight" with Alan (Albert Hall), though Wayne (D.B. Woodside) disapproves. Sherry assures her ex-husband that she has the dirt. "If you play this card," she warns Palmer, "you and Alan Milliken will be enemies for the rest of your life." ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Ramon has been blown to bits, Amador (Greg Ellis) has escaped, and Nina (Sarah Clarke) is running around in the woods, with Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) and Chase (James Badge Dale) in pursuit. They eventually find her, and Jack decides to bring her back to CTU. On the plane, they demand information from her. She eventually gives them the name of one of Amador's contacts, Alvers (Lothaire Bluteau), and a suspiciously complicated phone number. Sure enough, when Jack dials the number, Nina tells him that he's triggered a worm in CTU's computer system, and that in 30 minutes, terrorists will have access to their network. She says she'll deactivate it if their plane turns around and heads back to Mexico, but Jack refuses to give in to her demand, counting on Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and the crew at CTU to fix the problem. Chloe also has to deal with being interrogated about the baby. Faced with being turned over to the police, she tells Chappelle (Paul Schulze) who the father is. Meanwhile, in spite of Palmer's (Dennis Haysbert) pleas, Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) goes to visit Julia (Gina Torres) in the dead of night, to convince her to help her prove that Alan (Albert Hall) was responsible for Kevin Kelly's disappearance. While they plot, Alan wakes up and surprises them. He gets into an angry verbal confrontation with Sherry that turns deadly. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

As the third-season finale of 24 begins, the subway station has been shut down, and agents are searching and photographing all the male passengers who fit the profile of the terrorist. At one point, Chase (James Badge Dale) tells Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) that he's decided to transfer out of field work in order to salvage his relationship with Kim (Elisha Cuthbert), rather than develop the kind of emotional detachment that Jack says is a requirement of the job. While Tony (Carlos Bernard) is trying to defend his efforts to save Michelle's (Reiko Aylesworth) life, Michelle has a tender moment with him, and convinces Hammond (Randle Mell) to let him run tactical on the operation to catch the terrorist carrying the last vial of the virus. Gael's widow, Theresa (Kamala Lopez-Dawson), is arriving at CTU to claim his belongings, while Saunders (Paul Blackthorne) is brought in to study the photos being transmitted from the subway station. Unfortunately, the grieving Theresa sees him, realizes who he is, and shoots him before he can identify Arthur Rabens (Salvator Xuereb). Rabens manages to escape from the station, leading Jack and Chase on a high-speed pursuit, which ends when Rabens abandons his car and runs into a middle school. Jack and Chase deal with terrified teachers and students in their frantic search for Rabens. Chase finds him, and as the detonator counts down, he's forced to handcuff himself to the device in order to make sure that Rabens doesn't escape with it. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Tony (Carlos Bernard) helped Saunders (Paul Blackthorne) escape CTU's clutches because he is holding Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) hostage. Now Tony tries to cover his tracks, deleting the satellite imagery of the CTU team being moved. Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) realizes that the video is missing, and suggests to Tony that Saunders might have someone helping him inside CTU. Tony has her work on tracing Saunders' last call to him. Tony and Saunders seem to be at a stalemate, because Tony has said he'll kill Jane (Alexandra Lydon) if anything happens to Michelle, but when Saunders finds out CTU is tracing his call, he orders Tony to put a stop to it, and he does. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland), who has just gotten back to L.A., overhears Tony shutting down the trace, and demands to know what's going on. Tony admits to screwing up, and tells Jack he'll resign once the crisis is over. Jack points out that Tony didn't just screw up; he lied to cover his "mistakes." Jack relieves him of duty, forcing Tony to take even more drastic action. Meanwhile, Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) goes to Palmer's (Dennis Haysbert) opponent, Keeler (Geoff Pierson), and offers him evidence that Palmer lied to cover up her involvement in Alan Milliken's death. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

While Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) and Ramon (Joaquim de Almeida) go after Nina (Sarah Clarke), Claudia (Vanessa Ferlito) helps Chase (James Badge Dale) escape. Chase manages to get away, and arranges for a Delta team to pick him up, but Claudia is shot as they drive off. When Amador (Greg Ellis) goes to get the virus for Nina, Jack makes his move, dispatching a couple of her men. But then he gets distracted, and Nina gets the jump on him. Jack desperately offers her a lot of money in hopes of convincing her not to kill him, but she can't believe he's betrayed his country. Back at CTU, Chappelle (Paul Schulze) catches Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) hiding an infant under her desk. He wants to send her home, but he can't because they're in the middle of a crisis. Alan (Albert Hall) uses his political influence to punish Palmer (Dennis Haysbert). After his offer to resign is refused, Wayne (D.B. Woodside) meets with Julia (Gina Torres) to try to convince her to help, but Palmer decides to fight back. "We have to lower ourselves to his level," he says. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

This is the finale of the second season. Faced with evidence against Kingsley (Tobin Bell) presented by Jacobs (Scott Paulin), Palmer's (Dennis Haysbert) lawyer, Mike (Jude Ciccolella), calls Chapelle (Paul Schulze) and orders him to assist Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) in his investigation. Tony (Carlos Bernard) and Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) are reinstated. Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) wears a wire for her meeting with Kingsley (Tobin Bell), and Jack arranges for a live audio feed directly to Kingsley and Palmer. Sherry gets Kingsley to incriminate himself on tape, but Kingsley grows suspicious and orders her killed by his sniper. Jack has already taken care of the sniper, and Sherry runs for cover as the bullets start to fly. Having heard enough evidence, Prescott calls off the attack in the Middle East. When Kingsley's boss, Max (Thomas Kretschmann), hears that the plot has failed, he calmly enacts his backup plan, which begins with an attack on Palmer himself. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland), Kate (Sarah Wynter), Yusuf (Donnie Kershawarz), and Wallace (Gregg Henry) are under fire, pinned down at the warehouse. Jack calls Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) on her private line, and asks her to get infrared satellite images of the location, so he can see where the enemy shooters are. Michelle has to work carefully, because she now knows that Tony (Carlos Bernard) and Carrie (Lourdes Benedicto) are watching her closely. Jack and the others manage to escape, but Wallace is badly injured, and Jack has to bring him to a clinic, all the while pleading with him to turn over the evidence before he dies. Tony discovers that Michelle has been helping Jack, and angrily confronts her about it. After the deadly gunplay at the convenience store, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) is taken to a local police station. She eventually calls CTU and reaches Tony, who gives her the good news that Jack is still alive. Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) gets intense pressure from all sides, including Lynne (Michelle Forbes) and Mike (Jude Ciccolella), to begin the assault in the Mideast, but he holds his ground. After the explosion, there's an outbreak of xenophobic civil unrest in Marietta, GA. Palmer sends in the National Guard to restore order. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Three years after the biological attempt on President Palmer's (Dennis Haysbert) life (which ended Day 2), Palmer is back in Los Angeles, campaigning for re-election. He's hired his brother, Wayne (D.B. Woodside), as his chief of staff, and he has a clandestine romantic relationship with his personal physician, Dr. Anne Packard (Wendy Crewson). Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) has spent a year undercover, getting close to and then arresting Ramon Salazar (Joaquim de Almeida), a Colombian drug lord. Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) is now a technician at CTU, and is secretly having an affair with Chase (James Badge Dale), a young agent who is working with Jack. Tony (Carlos Bernard) and Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) are involved, and Michelle is hoping to find a job at Langley when Tony moves to his new position there. Jack and Chase go to the prison where Salazar is supposed to sign an agreement to identify all his terrorist contacts. After signing the agreement, Salazar kills his lawyer with the pen, and warns Jack, "What happens next is on you." Meanwhile, terrorists deposit a diseased corpse at the National Health Services. Dr. Sunny Macir (Christina Chang) eventually tells Tony that the victim died from a weaponized strain of a deadly virus they were studying. The virus will spread rapidly if it is not contained. The FBI gets a call from a terrorist, who threatens to unleash the virus on L.A. if Salazar is not released within six hours. As work begins on the case, Chase confronts Jack about his unsteady mental state, a result of his undercover work. Omar (Marc Casabani) is willing to talk, and Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) has to find out where the real bomb is. Omar admits that he's working for Syed Ali (Francesco Quinn), but he doesn't know about the second bomb. While Jack interrogates him, Kate (Sarah Wynter) sees Marie (Laura Harris), in disguise, trying to leave the airport. Kate tells a security guard to alert Jack, and goes after her sister. Marie gets the jump on Kate, holds her at gunpoint and demands her ID badge. Kate refuses, and Marie seems like she's about to shoot Kate before Jack shows up, in the nick of time, and shoots her in the arm. Jack uses force to interrogate Marie about the location of the bomb. Kate tries to reason with her, to no avail. Marie finally lies to them in an effort to send them on a wild goose chase, but Jack sees through it, and realizes the second bomb is at the airport. Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) accuses Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) of collaborating with Stanton. Sherry claims she was just trying to earn Stanton's trust so that she could find out what he was planning. She has a CIA man corroborate her story, but Palmer still doesn't trust her, and commands her to leave. Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) realizes that Lonnie (Kevin Dillon) lied to her about the explosion, and tries to escape the bomb shelter. Carrie Turner (Lourdes Benedicto) shows up at CTU to replace Paula. She clearly has some kind of unpleasant history with Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth). Mason (Xander Berkeley) is too sick to continue working. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) is battling heroin addiction after going undercover to bust Ramon Salazar (Joaquim de Almeida). Chase (James Badge Dale) is the only one who knows that Jack is going through withdrawal as CTU addresses the biological terror threat. Wayne (D.B. Woodside) tells Tony (Carlos Bernard) that the president will not give in to the terrorist demand to free Ramon, but promises that CTU will have all the resources they need. Wayne tells David (Dennis Haysbert) that he might be able to get a copy of their opponent's playbook for that night's debate. David rejects the offer, but Wayne does it anyway, and later tells David that the opposition intends to use some new information about Anne (Wendy Crewson) against him. Kim (Elisha Cuthbert), going against Chase's wishes, decides to tell Jack about their relationship. Jack later expresses his displeasure to Chase. Jack explains that the job has ruined every relationship he's ever had. Later, Jack sends the resentful Chase back to CTU to conduct a routine interrogation, in order to keep him out of harm's way. CTU discovers that the virus might be in powder form, which leads them to pursue Kyle Singer (Riley Smith), who has just returned to Los Angeles from Mexico with what he thinks is a bag of heroin. After Carla's body is found in the trunk of the car, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) and Miguel (Innis Casey) are arrested for kidnapping and murder. They try to explain the situation to Brown (Michael McGrady), the patrolman who caught them, and Kim begs him to call CTU to confirm their story. Tony (Carlos Bernard) brings in Reza (Phillip Rhys) and Bob (John Terry) for questioning, and learns that Bob is a consultant for the CIA. Both deny any connection to the terrorists, forcing Mason (Xander Berkeley) to get tough with them. Meanwhile, Paul (Al Sapienza) helps Kate (Sarah Wynter) look into her father's files, where they discover money transfers to Syed Ali, and some top-secret files. There's a growing interest in the whereabouts of Wieland (Michael Holden), the reporter that Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) has detained. Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) offers to try to persuade Wieland to keep quiet about the terrorist threat, in exchange for exclusive access later. Wieland doesn't go for it. To make matters worse, he somehow gets out of custody and publicly chastises Palmer for not telling the public about the threat. Faheen (Anthony Azizi) won't talk, so Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) takes him and Nina (Sarah Clarke) back to L.A. But their plane is attacked en route. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Employing split screens and kinetic pacing, the real-time action thriller-drama 24 became a fast cult hit when it premiered on FOX in late 2001. Each one-hour episode covers an hour in a single day that unfolds over the course of a season. Kiefer Sutherland stars as über-hero Jack Bauer, a daring and seemingly indestructible agent for the fictitious U.S.-intelligence body the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU). Throughout the series, Bauer has stopped an assassination attempt, thwarted a nuclear attack, been widowed, decapitated a witness, died, and become addicted to narcotics while undercover with a drug cartel. Among the other characters are President David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert), who was candidate Palmer throughout the first season, later had the Presidency swiped from under him, and was the victim of a bio-attack at the end of the second season; Kim Bauer (Elisha Cuthbert), Jack's trouble-prone, damsel-in-distress daughter; and Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard), a fellow-CIA agent with whom Jack has both butted heads and allied. Based on the life and career of Tony Schembri, police chief of Rye, NY, the weekly, hour-long ABC crime series The Commish starred Michael Chiklis as Tony Scali, police commissioner of the fictional New York community of Eastbridge. Although dedicated to his job and extremely tough on perpetrators, Tony often took an unorthodox approach to police methods, and he was often known to be quite a jovial fellow amongst his co-workers. Tony also enjoyed his "down time," especially with his wife, Rachel (Theresa Saldana), son David (Kaj-Erik Eriksen), and infant daughter Sarah (played by twins Dayna and Justine Cornborough), who was born at the end of the series' first season. Anoher member of the Scali household -- at least during the show's first year or so on the air -- was Tony's cheerfully indolent brother-in-law, Arnie Metzger (David Paymer). Back on the job, Tony's associates included three different Chief of Detectives: Irv Wallerstein (Alex Bruhanski), Paulie Pentangeli (John Cygan), and Cyd Madison (Melinda McGraw). Among the other crew members were officer Stan Kelly (Geoffrey Nauffts), who is killed by a car bombing at the end of season three, patrol car officer Ricky Caruso (Nicholas Lea) and his partner officer Carmela Pagan (Gina Belafonte), officers Jonathan Papdakis (Ray Scrivano), Gordy Tuefel (Michael Patten), and Mike Rose (Pat Bermel) and detectives Lopez (Jason Scott Schombing) and Hibbs (Ian Tracey). Another fine product from Stephen J. Cannell's production firm, The Commish was filmed in its entirety in Vancouver, despite its distinctively "New Yawk" setting and attitude.
