Based on the same real-life events that inspired Ranulph Fiennes' gripping best-seller The Feather Men, writer/director Gary McKendry's globe-trotting action thriller follows the adventures of an ex-special-ops agent (Jason Statham) as he emerges from retirement to track down his missing mentor (Robert De Niro). But accomplishing that goal won't be easy, because a master killer (Clive Owen) has dispatched a trio of fierce assassins to exterminate the hardboiled former agent by any means necessary. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A gruff Australian farmer puts his own lonely life at risk in order to help a desperate refugee in director Peter Duncan's intimate rural drama. John (William McInnes) is the kind of man who likes his solitude. A man of habit whose best friend stands on four legs, John's volatile temperament makes it difficult for him to connect with most people. One morning, John is gazing out of his kitchen window when he spots a bloodied young woman stammering weakly towards his house. Instinctively, the farmer carries her into his home and begins tending to her massive wounds. Though John is unable to break the language barrier that will allow him to communicate openly with the woman, it is clear that she is terrified. Later driven by instinct to hide the woman when some unexpected visitors come knocking on his door, John decides against calling the police and does his best to aid her in her slow recovery. In the process John learns that the woman's name is Tahmeena (Monic Hendrickx). As Tahmeena's grasp of the English language takes hold, she and John begin to exchange stories: hers about being a refugee in Australia and his about being a widowed farmer just trying to keep the daily routine. Eventually, the outside world comes crashing down on the pair - threatening not just their growing bond, but their very lives as well. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Directed by Craig Lahiff, Black and White is a story about bigotry, social injustice, and a real-life murder trial that made Australian headlines in the late '50s. On a December afternoon in 1958, the body of a nine-year-old white girl is discovered in a cave off the coast of Southern Australia. Detective Paul Turner (Roy Billing) quickly arrests a half-aboriginal fair-worker named Max Stuart (David Ngoombujarra), who signs a confession. However, being that Max is illiterate, the legitimacy of the confession is contested by his legal aid representatives, David O'Sullivan (Robert Carlyle) and Helen Devaney (Kerry Fox). Despite the questionable confession, Max is found guilty by the all-white, all-male jury, and sentenced to be hanged. O'Sullivan lodges a series of appeals, but no conclusive evidence of Max's guilt or innocence has been found to this day. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

Directed by David Caesar, Dirty Deeds is an Australian crime picture inspired by real-life Sydney mobsters, and is set in the Sydney crime underworld of 1969. Bryan Brown stars as Barry Ryan, a prominent gangster whose ruthlessness rivals some of the toughest in the trade. He lives with his downbeat wife, Sharon (Toni Collette), and their son, but spends the majority of his time either with fellow mobsters or his mistress, Margaret (Kestie Morassi). Ryan's business is threatened when a Chicago Mafia boss dispatches two of his goons to scope out the poker machine scene for a potential takeover. Tony (John Goodman) and Sal (Felix Williamson), however, are lost when it comes to Australian culture, and stick out like a sore thumb. Negotiating with the Americans will be difficult enough for Barry, but the real blow comes when he learns that one of his own gang members has been deceitful. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

Add The Man Who Sued God to Queue Add The Man Who Sued God to top of Queue
Directed by Mark Joffe, Australia's The Man Who Sued God centers around Steve (Billy Connelly), an ex-lawyer who is unable to collect insurance money for his destroyed boat. Deeming the accident an "act of God," Steve decides to sue the man at the root of his problem -- namely, God. Anna (Judy Davis), a jaded journalist who took a particular interest in Steve's case, decides to help him out on his quest to collect from the almighty. The movie raises a host of philosophical issues, some of which include who should represent God in court, who pays up should God be convicted, and the status of Steve's eternal soul. The Man Who Sued God also features Vincent Ball and Billie Brown. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi
