The indestructible hopped-up hitman Chev Chelios, played to the hilt once again by Jason Statham, returns in Crank 2: High Voltage, picking up where the first film left off -- except this time, Chelios is chasing a Chinese gangster who hijacked his heart and substituted it with a mechanical one that needs to be jolted with an electric charge to stay pumping. The maverick directing/writing team of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor returns to inject more caffeinated craziness into Lionsgate's burgeoning action series, with Amy Smart and Dwight Yoakam set to reprise their roles from the original. Efren Ramirez, Bai Ling, Clifton Collins Jr., and Corey Haim round out the cast. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

In this horror story liberally laced with comedy, an up-and-coming rock band called the Wiseguys are making their first music video and they are shooting on standing sets at a major Hollywood studio. Some of the world's best-known horror films were shot there and the band and their director plan on milking the spooky ambience for all it's worth. However, it turns out there are more than just pretend scares in store for the band -- it seems a masked murderer is stalking the studio lot, and is re-creating a number of well-known death scenes, with the band and their girlfriends as unfortunate "extras." The Back Lot Murders stars Priscilla Barnes, Corey Haim, Charles Fleischer, and David DeFalco. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Two men try to cover up an accident with a lie and find that the lie makes the accident seem that much worse in this tense drama. Paul Venters (Craig Sheffer) is a self-centered plastic surgeon who is soon to be married to beautiful Susan (Gabrielle Anwar), but doesn't get along very well with his fiancée's family, particularly Susan's brother Marty (Corey Haim), an ex-con who is trying to stay clean after beating a nasty drug habit. To appease his future wife, Paul tries to mend fences with Marty by inviting him along for a camping trip in the Canadian wilderness. While looking for elk, Paul sees a large bear that's heading towards Marty; thinking the animal is about to attack, Paul fires several shots at the bear, but one of them manages to kill a nearby forest ranger on patrol. Afraid that no one will believe the truth -- especially given Marty's past arrest record -- Paul and Marty cook up a fraudulent story to explain the ranger's death, but when park warden Samantha Wilkes (Jennifer Beals) looks into the case, their web of lies begins to unravel, with dangerous consequences. Filmed on location in Canada, Without Malice also features Ian Black and Blaine Hart. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Residents in a retirement home band together to thwart the thievery of the home's crooked director. Woody, Joseph, Olive (Cloris Leachman) and Peter were a bridge foursome. The film opens at Peter's funeral where Joseph (Jan Rubes) is attempting to recruit Rose (Olympia Dukakis) to fill Peter's spot at the bridge table. Acting on a prior understanding with Peter, Woody (Jean Lapointe) goes to the home's director, Carl (Matt Craven), and tries to get the money Peter allocated to cover the costs of his funeral. Carl claims Peter left the money to the home, and nothing is available for the funeral. Woody knows perfectly well that Peter would do no such thing, and his suspicions are aroused. The four bridge players begin to notice other, equally shady, things going on, and so put together a sting operation. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

This direct-to-video sequel to the teen-oriented body-swap fantasy Dream a Little Dream (1989) - which, like its predecessor, stars Corey Feldman and Corey Haim as longtime buddies Bobby and Dinger - preserves the "fantastic reality" mood of the original but offers audiences a slightly different plot conceit (and omits co-stars Jason Robards, Jr. and Harry Dean Stanton). In the sophomore outing, the boys have graduated from high school and now share an apartment with a lady friend. They happen upon two pair of magical sunglasses, one of which enables the wearer to exert total control over the doings of the person who wears the other pair. Unfortunately, the shades were invented by a homicidal nut who soon notices their absence and sets out to reclaim his property. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Inasmuch as National Lampoon magazine was on its last legs in 1994, the title National Lampoon's Last Resort was all too prophetic. The film takes place at, yes, a summer resort, which is threatened with extinction by (in unison, please) Evil Land Developers. Can the Corey boys -- Haim and Feldman -- save the camp? You might get some incidental fun by predicting precisely when the first bathroom joke is about to occur (it doesn't take long). Unlike previous National Lampoon features, Last Resort went direct to video. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A young man who fantasizes about an older woman discovers his daydreams may be turning into realities in this coming-of-age comedy-drama. Eric (Corey Haim) and Donald (Andrew Miller) are two teenage boys growing up in a small farming community in Canada in the mid-1950's. Eric and Donald are at the uncomfortable age where their interest in women far outstrips their knowledge of how to get women interested in them. Eric is also still recovering from the death of his mother, while he struggles to come to terms with the remarriage of his father, Thorvald (Kier Dullea), to Eva (Genevieve Bujold). As local gas jockey Mr. Todd (Robbie Coltrane) offers Eric and Donald advice on courting the fairer sex, Eric discovers Vera (Barbara Williams), the attractive wife of the farmer living next door, enjoys skinny-dipping with her daughters, and Eric digs a makeshift "hideout" where he can watch her undetected. Eric begins to strike up a friendship with Vera, while unknown to him, Vera becomes increasingly unhappy in her marriage. One day, Vera catches Eric as he watches her swimming, but rather than reacting with anger, she reaches out to the inexperienced youth. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Released specifically to combat growing rumors that teenage star Corey Haim was losing a battle with drug addiction, this "video diary" sets out to show that a typical day for the "Haimster" is more wholesome than you'd think. Haim is shown mostly alone, enjoying a well-rounded set of activities that encompass baseball, hockey, tennis, makeup sessions, driving around Los Angeles, recording funk music on his Casio keyboard, putting on a New Jack era-fashion show, and lying on a comfortable-looking couch reflecting on life. Dismissing his fans' drug fears as a "whole misconception thing," he says he hopes to make the leap from playing the younger brother to "trying to be the older brother, or the only brother." ~ All Movie Guide

In 1987-88, a quartet of films with the same basic body-switching premise deluged theaters: Like Father, Like Son (1987), Big (1988), Vice Versa (1988), and 18 Again (1988). One year later, Dream a Little Dream (1989) followed suit. Coleman Ettinger (Jason Robards) is forever scolding the local high school students who use his yard as a shortcut to and from their nearby school. Coleman is not a crotchety old coot, however. He's deeply in love with his wife Gena (Piper Laurie) and is good friends with his next-door neighbor Ike (Harry Dean Stanton). In fact, Coleman is looking for a mystical way to preserve his and Gena's lives forever by transferring their consciousness into the bodies of younger people. One day, student Bobby Keller (Corey Feldman) has a bicycle mishap with Coleman while cutting through the yard, and their minds change places. Now Coleman has the brain of a teenager, while young Bobby uses Coleman's wisdom and life experience to win over the girl of his dreams. Dream a Little Dream was the directorial debut of Marc Rocco, son of actor Alex Rocco, who costars in a supporting role. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
