A hunting party arrives at a lodge in the Tatra mountains in Slovakia, near Hungary (the director of this film, Karoly Makk is Hungarian), where one woman (Barbara Sukowa) in the party had "accidentally" shot and killed her first husband some time ago. She has returned with her new mate (Mel Ferrer), very rich from inheriting her first husband's fortune, and she greets her former lover Boris (Helmut Berger) who is a game warden in the area. Boris was the only witness to the earlier shooting, and now history threatens to repeat itself as Boris and the new husband enter into an antagonistic relationship that begins to escalate. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

A Medeci villa is home to a crackpot doctor who does experiments on peacock eggs, a nurse who greets people by doing a handstand in her skirt, an aspiring ballerina, and a few other odd characters. The villa also hosts a broad range of visitors, including a musician and a gay couple -- the younger gay blade wastes no time in chasing after the mansion's gardener. A countess who arrived at the villa throws a dinner party one day while a wedding is going on in another room (partially sponsored by a local refrigerator company) and while the two young gays are cavorting in the bushes. At the height of the frivolity, gangsters invade the scene and things turn downright nasty, even the doc shoots one of his peacocks. Tourism is just not what it used to be. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Following the surprising success of his cheapjack Star Wars knockoff, Star Crash, Italian director Luigi Cozzi was given the helm of this cheapjack Alien knockoff. An alien cyclops causes a man to cover the Earth with nasty eggs (sometimes made of silicone, sometimes close-ups of common olives). The eggs release gelatinous gunk which makes people explode, and it's all part of the alien's plan to take over the world. Cozzi, a less-talented protégé of Dario Argento, at least gets a good soundtrack by using his mentor's house band, Goblin, but delivers a bad film nonetheless. The director admits that the ludicrous monster was made of badly painted papier-mache, requiring 96 separate cuts to look convincing in its big scene. It didn't work. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

- Ian McCullough, Louise Monroe, (more)
The time is the mid-14th century --- the Pope is now residing at Avignon, the Black Death is killing millions across Europe, and civil wars are adding to the turmoil and chaos. In this story adapted from Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron, a young teenage couple is sent to live in a nearby town by the man's uncle, in an attempt to keep them safe from harm. She is from the lower classes, and he comes from a noble family -- a family that opposes his choice of a future bride. While en route to the town, the couple's horses are stolen and they are forced to continue through the forest on foot -- at a pace that introduces them to a kaleidoscope of Boccaccio's characters, from masters of mysticism, to soldiers of the warring Papal armies. Somehow, the couple manage to get through this gauntlet of sorts, and they do marry. Just as they are ready to go back to Rome (where they came from), they hear that there is an insurrection in the offing, and suddenly, their brief spate of stability is threatened again. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
