Anne Haddy Movies
Anne Haddy enjoyed a healthy amount of international regard for her work on the Australian soap opera Neighbours. The show, which started airing in 1985, went on to gain a fan base worldwide. For her part, Haddy played the popular character Helen Daniels from the first season until 1997, when she was forced to leave the show, due to deteriorating health. Haddy started in the entertainment field at age 17, in radio shows. She had also appeared in a handful of films, but none that earned her any acclaim equal to Neighbours. She was married to fellow Aussie performer James Condon. She died at age 68, on June 6, 1999, after a long battle with cancer. ~ Ryan Shriver, All Movie Guide
Skillfully combining animation and live action, this is the third in a series of on-going pre-teen movies about Dot (Robyn Moore) and her adventures, usually set in Australia's outback. This time around, the bunny is Dot's friend, but he wants to be a kangaroo so he can take the place of Joey, the lost "roo that Dot is searching for. Bunny and Dot travel through the outback, running into just about every animal imaginable except a kangaroo. Koalas, turtles, emus, and other creatures appear in their natural habitat and then change into animated personalities as they interact with Dot and Bunny. Behind the witticisms aimed more at the parents than the pre-teen viewers lies a light-handed moral about being happy with yourself as you are. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Based on John Embling's book Tom, the Australian Fighting Back is set in a hellhole of a slum school. Most of the teachers have given up on the "unreachable" students. Not so idealistic John (Lewis Fitz-Gerald), who channels all his energies into elevating the intelligence and self-confidence of unruly 13-year-old Tom (Paul Smith). The latter actor is so good that it's hard to believe that Fighting Back was his first film. This sincerely-intentioned drama should not be confused with the like-vintage American actioner Fighting Back (aka Death Vengeance). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Based on a popular Australian novel, this comedy was produced Down Under in 1966. Nino Culotta Walter Chiari is an Italian journalist who is lured by his brother into coming to Australia to work for his paper there. But when Nino arrives in Sidney, he finds out that there is no paper; his brother has taken off with the investors' cash. Left in the lurch was his brother's business partner, Kay Kelly (Clare Dunne). Nino vows to pay off his brother's debt and gets a job as a bricklayer to do so. He also tries to woo Kay, but he is repeatedly rebuffed, with humorous results. ~ Michael Betzold, All Movie Guide
