A man in his mid-twenties reveals an unusual attitude about love and mortality in this offbeat romantic drama. Ilan (Miguel Angel Silvestre) is a mathematician who has unique ideas about love -- he believes that a connection between two people is like a formula that's dependent on the right set of random integers falling into place. That doesn't stop Ilan and his pals Eric (Felix Gomez) and Andy (Juan Diaz) from spending their free time looking for the ideal woman, and one day when they're in a café and Ilan spies beautiful Lisa (Barbara Goenaga) playing his favorite song on the jukebox, he suspects he may have finally found the girl for him. However, not long after encountering the woman of his dreams, Ilan learns that he's contracted a virulent form of melanoma that can only be treated with radical chemotherapy. To the chagrin of his mother (Diana Bracho), Ilan decides against the treatment and instead decides to take his chances with fate, and he similarly chooses to let Lisa come to him in his final months -- if they are meant to be together, she'll approach him, and otherwise he'll regard their meeting as a brief moment of good fortune. 3:19 was the first feature film from writer and director Danny Saadia, and was adapted from his award-winning short film Genesis 3:19. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

All hell breaks loose when an eccentric theatrical ensemble arrives in Oviedo, Spain to stage a production of the Leopoldo Alas play La Regenta, in writer-director Gonzalo Suarez's madcap comedy Oviedo Express. Among the players are self-important, high-maintenance Mariola Mayo (Aitana Sanchez-Gijon), who draws the unrequited affections of lush Alvaro Mesia (Jorge Sanz) but is herself married to egocentric thespian Benjamin Olmo (Carmelo Gomez); meanwhile, a pretty young post-graduate student, Emma (Barbara Goenaga) who is married to the philandering town mayor Ernesto (Alberto Jimenez) must contend with the ramblings of her nutty mom, Mina (Maribel Verdu), unshakably convinced that her late husband was an angel. As a product of these crazy shenanigans, Emma falls prey to the philanderings and manipulations of just about everyone and dire consequences ensue. The film has, as its source material, the same Stefan Zweig short story as Roberto Rossellini's 1954 feature Fear. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

An artist trying to climb the ladder of success spends his time with one who had fallen past most of the rungs in this whimsical comedy from Spain with an international cast. Zeta (Edu Soto) is a struggling writer trying to make a name for himself, but his agent (Jagvier Mejia) doesn't believe in his work and keeps giving him jobs ghost-writing for others. Zeta's latest assignment is to finish a novel for someone else in a mere four weeks, but he's having a hard time finding the inspiration for the project. Zeta spends much of his spare time at a neighborhood bar, Café Rossingol, a hangout for bohemians and eccentrics where he's fallen for one of the barmaids, Alicia (Barbara Goenaga), though she's made it clear she doesn't want to be in love with anyone. The Rossingol is run by Pascal (Dominique Pinon), who used to be the leader of a theater troupe, but ever since their venue was torn down to make room for a public sculpture, he's been reduced to serving drinks to others. Pascal gets word that several members of his old company are coming back to town for a visit, including beautiful singer Irene (Leigh Zimmerman) and her accompanist Kurt (Michael Jenn). While Pascal is excited to see his old colleagues, he's also nervous about what they may have to say to him, and he's giving serious thought to skipping town rather than facing them. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
