A handful of men begin behaving like children when their kids enter a Boy Scout competition in this family-friendly comedy. Ever since he was in fifth grade, Phil Davis (Greg Germann) has been coming in second place to Ace Montana (Marc Raymond) whenever they've been in some sort of competition together, and now that Phil and Ace are both middle-aged fathers, history seems to repeat itself when Brady (Adam Hicks), Phil's son, loses the city junior basketball championship to a team featuring Ace's boy. When Phil learns that Brady will be going up against Ace's son again in his Boy Scout troop's annual Pinewood Derby race, Phil decides it time to end the Davis family's losing ways once and for all, and with help from his childhood friends Blaine (Ross Brockley) and Jimmy (Perry Anzilotti), Phil sets out to build the perfect Pinewood derby car -- whether or not that's what Brady has in mind. Goofy medical students have all kinds of rip roaring fun pulling crazy pranks such as scaring first year students by pretending to be cadavers. When the hijinks accelerate, the dean of the school tries to stop them. (Burt Reynolds) as J.J. McClure takes off across the country again in this rickety sequel to Cannonball Run. A sheik has offered $1,000,000 to the first driver to reach a destination in Connecticut from Redondo Beach, California, inspiring J.J. and others to go for the gold. With cameos from more name performers than any dozen films together, (Frank Sinatra and the rat pack, Telly Savalas, Susan Anton, Shirley MacLaine, Jackie Chan, Sid Caesar, Marilu Henner, Catherine Bach, etc., etc., etc.), the movie becomes a pastiche and is executed as though no rehearsals were required, or ever happened. The action in this run-of-the-mill teen comedy in not as much on the slopes as between the sheets, or on the way to the sheets, as Harkin (Patrick Houser) picks up a hitchhiker (Tracy N. Smith) heading to a Lake Tahoe ski resort. Once there, Harkin joins up with a party-loving group of skiers led by Dan (David Naughton), a New Yorker. When the mix of young men and women are not shaking down into couples, attention focuses on the competition with the world ski champ Rudi Garmischt (John Patrick Reger) -- eventually leading to a spectacular sequence of skiing artistry down the snowy slopes, a tour-de-force that rivals scenes from the Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
