Filmed just before the Rodney King incident, Extreme Justice is a violent tale of "police procedure" gone bonkers. Troublesome LAPD cop Jeff Powers (Lou Diamond Phillips) is assigned to an elite squad headed by his old friend Dan Vaughn (Scott Glenn). Ostensibly organized to collar violent repeat offenders, Vaughn's men actually comprise a "Death Squad." Always careful to cover their tracks, the squad seldom brings 'em back alive. Powers' dilemma: should he turn in his buddies, or should he uphold their rather direct but undeniably effective deterrent to urban crime? Extreme Justice was withdrawn from distribution after the Los Angeles riots. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

During the late '80s, a terrible fad, wilding, came into vogue among troubled inner-city youth. Wilding involved nights of insane revelry, violence, and destruction of anything and anyone in the path of a youth gang. This made-for-TV drama is loosely adapted from the tale of a female victim who was beaten-up and gang raped in Central Park during a night of wilding. Afterward three suspects are arrested and a notorious defense attorney is assigned the case. Unfortunately he isn't sure he wants to handle them as they keep killing anyone who stands in the way of their acquittal including the prosecutor, the attorney's still loved ex-wife. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

This particularly bizarre horror variant on Joe Dante's Gremlins (1985) was directed by newcomer Jeff Mandel. The ridiculous plot concerns the efforts of a group of Nazis to set the stage for a Fourth Reich by mating one of Santa Claus' elves with a pretty teenaged waitress (Julie Austin). The cast is peppered with former television stars, including Deanna Lund of Land of the Giants as Austin's mother (she kills cats and has a nude scene) and Dan Haggerty of The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams as a drunken department-store Santa who used to be a detective. Even better is Haggerty's predecessor, a cocaine fiend who gets castrated by the Nazi elves. Mandel went on to co-direct Robo-C.H.I.C. (1989), which was almost as bad. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide
