As one of the first Hispanic musicians to break into the U.S. pop music scene in the 1990s, Selena is often cited as not only a talented singer and performer, but also as a groundbreaker for other Hispanic musicians who penetrated the pop scene after her. Based on her enormous and consistent success in the Latin music world, many critics predicted Selena would become a permanent fixture to the North American pop music scene, but her career was cut short when she was killed by the president of her fan club.
